Amara Raja to build 100 MW solar plant in Bangladesh

Amara Raja Infra, a subsidiary of the Indian battery maker Amara Raja Group, has been awarded a contract to develop a 100 MW solar facility in Bangladesh. The contract was secured from the Rural Power Company, a state-owned company in Bangladesh responsible for rural electrification in the country. The project will be developed by Amara Raja in association with solar module maker Premier Solar Powertech.

European EV and Charging Market Update

The share of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) was also lower than in 2022, decreasing to an average of 7%, compared to 10% in 2022. The Mazda-SubaruSuzuki-Toyota pool continues to have the lowest share of BEVs, at only 2% of total registrations, followed by Ford with 3%. Other than Volkswagen, with a minimal target gap of +2 g/km, all manufacturers are on track to reach their specific CO2 targets for 2023, with average over-compliance of around 10 g/km.

Incentives for Electrolyser Manufacturing in India: Policy Update

On June 28,2023, MNRE released its scheme guidelines for implementation of “Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme – Component I: Incentive Scheme for Electrolyser Manufacturing“. These incentives are intended to promote quick scale-up, technological advancement, and cost reduction for electroloysers in India. The financial outlay for the scheme is Rs 44.4 billion. The programme will be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30.

Hynfra plans 200,000 tonnes green ammonia plant in Jordan

Hynfra PSA and Jordan’s Fidelity Group intend to build a plant in the south of the Arab country to produce up to 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year, mostly for export to Europe. The two companies have set up a company dubbed Jordan Green Ammonia L.L.C which will be responsible for building an energy-independent and zero-emission complex in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ).

EDPR commissions 1.9 MWp solar PV system in Malaysia

EDP Renovaveis SA, majority owned by utility EDP, has completed the installation of a 1.9 MWp distributed generation (DG) solar energy system in Malaysia. The DG system was built for leasing company PE Land Sdn Bhd on the roof of the largest shopping centre in the country, located in the state of Penang. The PV array is comprised of 3,584 solar panels and has the capacity to generate more than 2.86 million kWh of electricity annually.

Eolus offloads 125 MW Swedish wind projects to BKW

Eolus, a Swedish renewables developer, has divested three Swedish wind projects totaling 125 MW to Swiss power provider BKW. Skallberget/Utterberget, Tjärnäs and Rosenskog are under construction and will begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2023. The three projects are powered by 19 wind turbines and will generate 330 GWh of clean energy annually. The deal includes all the shares at an enterprise value of €189 million, along with €19 million in the share purchase price.

North Sea offshore hydrogen project of 10 MW secures €20 million grant

The Hydrogen Offshore Production for Europe (HOPE) project consortium has signed a €20 million grant agreement with the European Commission, selected for funding under the Clean Hydrogen Partnership call for proposals co-financed by the European Union. The facility is expected to come on stream in mid-2026. The HOPE involves developing, building and operating the first 10 MW offshore hydrogen production unit in the North Sea, off the coast of Belgium, by 2026.

Statkraft to build solar-storage project in Germany

Statkraft has won a tender from the German regulatory authority, the Federal Network Agency, to build a solar plus battery storage project in the German municipality of Zerbst. In May 2023, the federal authority issued the tenders, which had a 400 MW maximum production. Statkraft had applied for a tender for a co-located solar plant with a connected battery on the site of a former gravel pit.

Acciona and Amazon expand their renewable power agreement

Acciona has expanded its existing power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon. The clean energy output from Acciona’s subsidiary Acciona Energia will rise from 641 MW to 833 MW with the addition of 192 MW. The move is a part of Amazon’s plan to entirely rely on renewable energy by 2025, five years earlier than its initial 2030 goal. The agreement will also assist the company in reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040.

University of Florida and Synhelion to scale up solar hydrogen energy solution

Synhelion and its partner, University of Florida, has announced that their joint project has been awarded $2.7 million from the US Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO). Ilmatar to construct 350 MW solar plant in Sweden

Ilmatar, a Finnish independent power producer (IPP), has announced plans to build a 350 MW solar power plant in Vermland County’s Grums municipality in central Sweden. The company has secured a 50-year leasing deal with landowners in Grums so that the solar plant, one of the largest in the country, can be built on 300-400 hectares of leased property.

CIP to invest $350 million in Korean offshore wind projects

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has agreed to invest $350 million in Korean offshore wind projects. The funds will be utilised to develop gigawatt (GW)-scale projects, and the investments will be made through CIP’s flagship funds. The projects, which will use fixed bottom and floating offshore wind technologies, will be constructed in Korea’s Jeonnam Province, including Shinan County, Yongkang County, and the Ulsan region, by CIP’s offshore wind development partner, Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP).

Next Generation of EU Resources: Factsheet

As committed during the negotiations on the long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the European Commission has recently completed its proposal for a next generation of own resources. Following the political agreement on the Fit For 55 package, which seeks to ensure EU policies contribute to the climate neutrality of the continent, the Commission  also proposes to adjust the own resources proposals based on the Emissions Trading System (ETS) and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) compared to the original proposals from December 2021.
