Van Oord has secured two offshore wind projects: Baltic Power in the Baltic Sea and Greater Changhua 2b and 4 in Taiwan. The contracts have a total worth of more than €500 million. OX2, a Swedish renewable project developer, has begun construction on a 1.9 GW energy hub called Neptunus in the southern Baltic Sea. The hub, which will be situated in the Swedish economic zone, will be able to generate both electricity and hydrogen. It will include offshore wind turbines as well as equipment for converting electricity to hydrogen. Neptunus will be able to produce 8TWh of power annually, which is equal to 5 per cent of Sweden’s annual electricity consumption.

Eolus, a Nordic wind power company, and Simply Blue Group, an Irish firm, have agreed to partner on the development of four commercial-scale offshore wind parks in the Baltic Sea. The remaining facilities will be situated offshore of Finland, while two of the projects will be developed in Sweden.

In September 2022, Belgium and the other seven countries of the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) including Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands jointly announced that they had set an OSW capacity target of at least 76 GW by 2030, 193 GW by 2040 and 260 GW by 2050. As part of the joint statement, Belgium has agreed to a non-binding target of 6 GW of OSW capacity by 2030 and 8 GW by 2040.

RWE, a German energy company, has submitted a bid for a 1.5 GW offshore wind seabed permit in the Polish Baltic Sea’s 53.E1 area. The Freeboard I offshore wind farm will be situated 75 km from Ustka’s coast. RWE stated that it has created a one-of-a-kind strategy for the offshore area that focuses on efficient area co-usage, among other factors.

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has granted Iberdrola, a Spanish electric utility company, approval to build Baltic Eagle, the Baltic Sea’s largest offshore wind farm. With a capacity of 476 MW, Baltic Eagle will be able to generate enough clean energy to power 475,000 homes while avoiding over 800,000t of carbon emissions each year. Vestas has handed Fred Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC) contract for the shipping and installation of turbines for the 476MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The installation of the 50 Vestas V174-9.5MW machines will begin in 2024. This purchase is one of the three turbine transport and installation contracts that are worth up to Euro 124 million.The 476 MW Baltic Eagle project is being constructed by Spanish renewable company Iberdrola off the island of Rügen in German Baltic Sea waters. The project will cover an area of 40 km2 in total and supply electricity to about 475,000 households.

The Polish Energy Regulatory Office has awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) to the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm which is reported to be the largest offshore wind project in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. Its two phases, Baltica 3 and Baltica 2, would together have a cumulative capacity of up to 2.5 GW. The CfD was awarded at a maximum of PLN 319.60/MWh in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Climate and Environment of Poland and the Offshore Wind Act.
