ENGIE acquires 278 MW BESS projects in Spain

ENGIE has acquired two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Andalusia totaling 278 MW/1.1 GWh. These facilities located in Álora (78 MW/312 MWh) and Tarifa (200 MW/800 MWh) provide four hours of storage and utilise synchronous condensers to stabilise the grid through inertia and reactive power management. Construction on the projects is scheduled to commence in 2027, with the projects expected to be commissioned in 2028.

Egypt signs renewable energy agreements package  

Egypt has formalised a series of renewable agreements covering wind, solar, and battery energy storage system projects. These include plans to establish standalone battery energy storage systems with a total capacity of 5,620 MW. One of the agreements grants land usufruct rights for the 900 MW Shokeir wind project in Ras Shokeir. Furthermore, multiple other PPAs have been signed for several renewable projects across the country.

ENGIE inks biomethane purchase agreement with PepsiCo UK 

ENGIE has signed a 10-year biomethane purchase agreement with PepsiCo UK. Under the agreement, ENGIE will construct a new anaerobic digestion facility in northern England with an annual biomethane production capacity of 60 GWh. All output from the plant will be contracted to PepsiCo through a mass balance mechanism, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027 once the facility becomes operational.

Masdar and Engie secure financial close for Khazna solar project in UAE

Masdar and ENGIE have achieved financial close for the 1.5 GWac Khazna solar project in Abu Dhabi. The financing package has been secured from seven regional and international lenders, including Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, KfW IPEX, BNP Paribas, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, and Emirates Development Bank.

ENGIE fully commissions 846 MW wind project in Brazil 

ENGIE has achieved full commercial operations at the Serra do Assuruá wind complex in Gentio do Ouro, Bahia, in northeastern Brazil. The project has an installed capacity of 846 MW, consisting of 188 wind turbines spread across 24 wind farms and is supported by 28 km of transmission lines that connect the facility to Brazil’s main electricity grid. The project supplies renewable electricity to the free energy market.

ENGIE and Meta ink PPA for 600 MW solar project in US

Meta has entered into a new power purchase agreement (PPA) with ENGIE to offtake the entire output from a 600 MW solar project in the US. The agreement pertains to ENGIE’s Swenson Ranch solar farm, located in Stonewall County, Texas, which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. Under the PPA, Meta will source 100 per cent of the electricity generated from the project to power its data center operations across US.

ENGIE inks 15-year PPA with Apple in Italy

ENGIE has entered into a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Apple to expand its renewable energy operations in Italy. Under the agreement, ENGIE will develop two wind farms with a combined capacity of 74 MW, along with one 11 MW wind repowering project, and two agrivoltaic solar plants totalling 88 MW. All projects, located in southern Italy, have been authorised, and are scheduled to be operational between 2026 and 2027.

IFC grants $600 million loan to ENGIE Energía Perú

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has approved a corporate loan of up to $600 million for ENGIE Energía Perú. The financing is directed towards renewable energy development and energy transition. The first tranche ($120 million) is structured as a green and sustainability-linked loan. NHOA Energy and ENGIE have commenced construction on a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Kallo, located in the municipality of Beveren. The project is being executed by NHOA Energy under a supply contract and long-term service agreement with ENGIE. The project stems from ENGIE’s successful participation in the fourth Capacity Remuneration Mechanism (CRM) auction conducted by Elia, Belgium’s transmission system operator.

ENGIE Brasil Energia has inked an agreement for the acquisition of two hydropower plants. These are the Santo Antônio do Jari hydropower plant situated in the states of Amapá and Pará and the Cachoeira Caldeirão hydropower plant in the state of Amapá. The transaction is valued at approximately R$2.9 billion out of which approximately R$2.3 billion is in equity and approximately R$671 thousand in net debt.

Amazon signs agreement with Engie to procure 473 MW renewable energy from wind farm

Amazon has inked a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with Engie to secure the 473 MW output of the Moray West offshore wind farm in Scotland. The deal is part of the e-commerce giant’s plan to run all of its operations entirely on renewable energy by 2025. The wind farm, which is slated to begin operations in 2024, will provide enough energy to power 650,000 UK households per year.

Ocean Winds to develop offshore wind projects in Australia

Ocean Winds, a 50-50 joint venture (JV) between Spanish renewables firm EDP and French energy giant Engie, has submitted an application to build offshore wind projects off the coast of Victoria, Australia. Ocean Winds, through its bidding company High Sea Wind, submitted three applications in Victoria’s Gippsland region for wind projects totaling about 4 GW of renewable energy capacity.
