RWE finalises offshore wind grid agreement with TenneT

RWE, a German energy giant, has finalised offshore grid connection agreements with network operator TenneT for the OranjeWind offshore wind project. The offshore wind facility will have approximately 800 MW of capacity and will be built 53 km off the Dutch coast. The realisation of the grid connection and the transmission of the power produced by RWE’s wind farm on TenneT’s platform are included in the scope of the connection.

UK, Netherlands plan 2 GW cross-border offshore wind link

National Grid and TenneT have unveiled plans for LionLink, an innovative cross-border direct current cable that will connect offshore wind between the UK and the Netherlands.  The LionLink project is a multi-purpose or hybrid interconnector that will connect up to 2 GW of offshore wind capacity between the British and Dutch electricity systems. It will be only the second hybrid interconnector in the world and significantly larger than its predecessor, Germany and Denmark’s 400 MW Kriegers Flag link that connects two offshore substations in the Baltic Sea.

TenneT awards $32 billion contracts for North Sea grid development

TenneT, the German transmission system operator, has granted $32 billion in contracts to three consortia for the development of North Sea offshore grid connections. The contracts, which cover the production and installation of 14 offshore grid connection systems, were signed with the consortia of GE/Sembcorp, GE/McDermott, and Siemens Energy/Dragados. This will produce enough offshore power transmission capacity from the German and Dutch North Seas to power 28 large-scale power plants.

TenneT awards $1.9 billion offshore cable contracts to Prysmian and NKT

TenneT, the Dutch-German energy network operator, has awarded offshore cable systems contracts to Prysmian and NKT for two grid connection projects in the Netherlands. The IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek I projects will link two future offshore wind farms in the Dutch North Sea to the province of Zeeland in the country’s southwest. In total, the two contracts are estimated to be worth $1.9 billion.

TenneT floats a tender for offshore wind connections in North Sea

TenneT, the Dutch transmission system operator, intends to develop a $31.5 billion tender plan and contract partners for the construction of land and sea connections for 40 GW of offshore wind capacity in the German and Dutch North Sea. TenneT will be responsible for at least two-thirds of this target, connecting 20 GW of capacity in each of the German and Dutch North Seas.

TenneT to invite bids for development of grid network for offshore wind projects in Germany and Netherlands

Dutch transmission systems operator, TenneT has announced that it will launch tenders for the development of grid connections with a transmission capacity of 2 GW. The project will ensure supporting infrastructure for the upcoming offshore wind projects in Europe. Under the first tender, transmission infrastructure for at least two projects will be developed in the Ijmuiden Ver wind area in the Netherlands which will be operational in 2028 and 2029. The following tenders will cover the BalWin 1 which will be operational in 2029 and also the BalWin 2 and BalWin 3 which will be operational by 2030.
