Umicore and PowerCo establish a JV for battery materials production

Umicore, a Belgium-based company and the battery unit of the Volkswagen Group, PowerCo, have formed a joint venture with an aim to invest around $2.9 billion to build a significant supply chain for sustainable batteries. The two companies will jointly control the venture and share costs, investments, revenues, and profits equally under the terms of the agreement.

Statkraft and Umicore sign long-term PPA for onshore wind power

Statkraft, the Norwegian state-owned energy company, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Umicore, a Belgian materials technology company. In order to power Umicore’s facility in Kokkola, Finland, the PPA will assure an annual supply of 60 GWh of clean energy from 2024 to 2033. The clean energy will be supplied from the Nuolivaara wind farm in northern Finland and will be accredited with assurances of origin.
