Ameresco, a cleantech integrator located in the US, and Sunel Group have joined forces to compete on 1.5 GWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the UK and Europe. The projects, which span Greece, Italy, Spain, Romania, and the UK, are currently in the bidding stage and are expected to have contract values that exceed $500 million. The BESS facilities will also provide grid stabilisation services to increase the grid’s resilience while the PV projects will produce clean energy.

The agreement will bring together the two businesses’ competence in engineering, procurement, and construction, as well as operation and maintenance of large-scale solar PV and BESS systems. Additionally, the partnership seeks to establish standards for performance and accelerate utility-scale renewable power. According to the two companies, their renewable energy projects would increase the amount of renewable energy in Europe’s grid while reducing carbon emissions.

In August 2022, the UK-based solar energy developer Cero Generation selected Ameresco Energy Hellas and Sunel Group as its partners for a 100 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Greece. Greece’s Prosotsani Drama region would be responsible for the construction of the Delfini solar PV project. According to reports, it is the first solar project in the country to use a power purchase agreement and not receive any form of government subsidy on electricity expenses.
