Under the New York Bight auction, the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has leased a 480,000-acre renewable development site offshore of New York and New Jersey. RWE Renewables, Ocean Winds, Invenergy, and Atlantic Shores were declared provisional auction winners by BOEM. Companies in the auction process submitted winning bids totaling $4.37 billion.
RWE Renewables secured area OCS-A 0539 with a winning bid of $1.1 billion through its Bight Wind joint venture. The seafloor area has the potential to house 3 GW of clean energy capacity, enough to power 1.1 million homes in the US. Attentive Energy placed second in the auction and was awarded the OCS-A 0538 segment, which has a capacity of 964 MW, for $795 million. The 924 MW OCS-A 054 area was granted to Atlantic Shores, a joint venture between EDF Renewables and Shell, for a bid of $780 million.
The OCS-A 0537 sector was purchased for $765 million by EDP Renewables and Engie’s joint venture company Ocean Winds. Mid-Atlantic Offshore Wind and Invenergy were granted the remaining two sites, respectively.
