California has a long-standing role as a leader in the fight against climate change. California’s early investment in energy efficiency savings and aggressive appliance and building standards has enabled the state to keep energy bills for residential and industrial customers among the lowest in the nation and it has the 2nd lowest energy consumption per capita. This year, California ranked first among all the states when it comes to energy efficiency according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
