EnBW, a German utility, has agreed to purchase 400 MW of solar projects in Brandenburg from Procon Solar. EnBW has the option to acquire an additional 400 MW of capacity under the terms of the agreement. The contract will be completed in two stages and will involve solar projects at varying stages of development. In July 2022, advanced-stage projects with a capacity of approximately 400 MW will be transferred to EnBW.

Reportedly, EnBW will maintain the expertise of Procon Solar’s current project development team. EnBW will locate its offices at Procon’s Cottbus site, as additional projects with a capacity of around 400 MW are expected to be completed by February 2023. By 2025, renewable energy will account for at least half of EnBW’s power portfolio. Its three existing solar parks in Weesow-Willmersdorf, Gottesgabe, and Alttrebbin were all built without the assistance of the state and have a combined capacity of approximately 500 MW.

EnBW has a 2.5 GW solar project pipeline in Germany. EnBW’s pipeline will increase by more than 25 per cent to 3.3 GW with the addition of Procon Solar’s projects in the Lusatia region.

REGlobal’s Views: With Germany planning 80% renewable energy share by 2030, there is significant opportunity in large-scale solar power development in the country. Thus, EnBW is expanding its market share in its home country.
