LyondellBasell, a plastics, chemicals, and refining company, has committed to purchase power from a 260 MW solar park planned by Germany’s Encavis Asset Management AG (Encavis AM) north of Berlin. The announcement states that 208 MW of the project’s planned capacity is covered under the power purchase agreement (PPA). Over the course of its 12-year contract, LyondellBasell will receive around 210 GWh of power annually, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of roughly 56,500 houses in Europe.

The contracted project, which will be situated near Bartow, in the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is expected to generate one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) parks in Germany. Its initial phase of construction began earlier in April 2024, and commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025. It is estimated that the plant’s projected 270,000 MWh output will be sufficient to annually power 96,000 dwellings.

In December 2023, TotalEnergies signed a second contract with LyondellBasel to supply a combined 275 MWac (358 MW) of green electricity sourced from its utility-scale Cottonwood Bayou and Brazoria Solar farms in Texas. Through the newly signed 15-year CPPA, LyondellBasell will offtake 163 MW from Brazoria Solar farm, located southwest of Houston, with a capacity of 325 MW and a commercial start-up planned for the end of 2025.
