The Energy and Water Agency of the Government of Malta has released a draft consultation on the policy “National Policy for the Deployment of Offshore Renewable Energy”. It shall remain in force in its entirety unless withdrawn or suspended by the Government of Malta. The Government of Malta will undertake a review of this policy when and as required in view of any technological developments or any changes taking place in any related policy or goals.

With the introduction of this offshore renewable energy policy, the Maltese government is setting the foundation to venture into a new arena of renewable energy. This initiative will complement the success of onshore photovoltaic rooftop and solar farms, contributing further to the ‘green’ energy transition in line with the EU legislative packages of the European Green Deal, Fit-for-55 initiatives and the REPowerEU plans.
