To supply subsea cable for the revolution wind farm in the US, Ørsted and Eversource have contracted with the French cable supplier Nexans. Nexans has now secured the contract for providing its export cable system to the 704 MW wind farm repeatedly. The first order for setting up and safeguarding the export cable link for the wind project was given to the company in March 2022.
The project will connect to the US onshore grid and is situated more than 24 km south of Rhode Island and around 51 km east of the Connecticut coast. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2025, with construction on the site likely to begin early in 2023. The wind farm will produce roughly one million tonnes of carbon pollution-free energy, enough to power more than 350,000 homes.
Earlier this month, Matrix Renewables purchased a 4.6 GW portfolio of utility-scale solar energy projects spread across the central US. For an undisclosed sum, the company bought the portfolio from SolarStone, a US-based provider of solar energy. In addition to the acquisition, Matrix and SolarStone Partners have agreed to establish a larger joint venture for development. As a result, Matrix will be able to add new renewable energy projects to its backlog in the US and collaborate with SolarStone on existing projects. The projects will be constructed across several central US states.
