In a recent renewable energy auction in Poland, solar power developers secured the entirety of offered capacity for development of small-scale renewable projects, amounting to a cumulative capacity of more than 700MW. The auction took place earlier this month for wind and solar projects with capacities of up to 1MW.

The winning bids were submitted by 235 parties, with the lowest price being $60.46 per MWh. Successful bidders included ReneSola Power, with an allocation of 38 MW of solar power capacity. The projects are expected to be commissioned within the next two years and will be eligible for a 15-year guaranteed tariff. The Polish authorities have agreed to buy around 11.76 TWh of solar power through the auction.

Poland has a target of 7.8 GW of solar by 2030 – as outlined in the National Plan for Energy and Climate. As per a report by SolarPower Europe, Poland saw the fourth-highest amount of solar capacity additions in Europe in 2020, with 2.2GW of completed projects. wEarlier in November 2020, the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) in Poland conducted an auction for solar developers with an installed capacity of more than 1 MW. 96 bids submitted by 70 renewable energy developers were selected in the auction. As a result of the auction, a capacity of 1.7 GW of new energy capacity would be developed, which would include 800 MW of solar installations and 900 MW of wind.
