Saint-Gobain has inked a 5-year renewable electricity Power Purchase Agreement in Romania with OMV PETROM SA. This deal covers the purchase of green electricity from wind and photovoltaic sources provided by energy supplier OMV PETROM SA and will commence in January 2026. OMV PETROM SA will provide around 800 GWh of green electricity for a period of 5 years.

This contract, combined with a photovoltaic park currently in the final stage of development at the Călărași glass plant, will cover 100 per cent of Saint-Gobain’s electricity needs in Romania. Saint-Gobain Romania has 14 industrial sites in the country, covering glass, insulation, plasterboard, and construction chemicals activities.

REGlobal’s Views: This is Saint-Gobain’s second such renewable energy deal in the country and is a step for the company to reach its net zero carbon emissions goal by 2050. Many such large manufacturing companies are now increasingly adopting renewables to decarbonise their operations and diversify their energy mix for greater energy security.
