Siemens Energy has signed an agreement with Beijing Green Hydrogen Technology Development Company Limited, a subsidiary of China Power International Development Ltd. (China Power), to provide a hydrogen production system for a fueling station in Yanqing District, Beijing. The project location will be one of the competition areas for a major upcoming sporting event in 2022. Siemens’ green hydrogen project will provide hydrogen fuel supply for the public transportation during and after the event. This project is expected to be completed by May 2021 and is the first skid-mounted project of its kind being built by Siemens Energy in China.

This hydrogen project is a result of an MoU signed between Siemens Energy and State Power Investment Corporation Limited, the ultimate controlling shareholder of China Power, in September 2019. The purpose of the MoU is cooperation in green hydrogen development and comprehensive utilization, which the two companies plan to expand further in the near future.

Hydrogen is produced by splitting water using an electrolyzer and if renewable power from wind, solar, hydro or geothermal sources is used to produce hydrogen, it is called green hydrogen. Siemens’ electrolyzer system can be directly coupled with renewable energy and has a quick response time. The company has adapted its hydrogen production system into a customized solution for flexibility and meeting customer needs of saving space.
