Spearmint Energy, a US-based renewable energy platform, has announced the acquisition of Revolution, a 150 MW battery energy storage project in Texas. For an undisclosed sum, the project was purchased from Con Edison Development, a subsidiary of Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses. The Revolution project, one of the largest battery projects in Texas, is situated close to King Mountain Wind Farm in the Lower Colorado River Authority Territory (LCRA). It will provide the state’s Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market with battery energy storage capacity. Since the launch of the platform earlier in 2022, Revolution will be the first battery-related project in Spearmint’s portfolio. In the second quarter of 2023, the project is anticipated to receive notice to start operations.
Recently, the US plans to explore the potential for offshore wind power production in the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico (GOM), in order to further boost the burgeoning renewable energy sector. The Department of the Interior (DOI) is seeking public input on two potential wind energy areas (WEAs) in the GOM’s Outer Continental Shelf as part of the project. The first draft WEA is situated around 24 nautical miles (nm) off the coast of Galveston, Texas, and the second is situated 56 nm off the coast of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
