Brazil connects 6.5 GW of non-hydro renewables in 2022

According to the power sector regulator Aneel, Brazil has approved 6,504.7 MW of wind, solar, and biomass power facilities to start operating in 2022. In total, the country added 8,235.1 MW of capacity in 2022, far exceeding the goal of 7,625 MW established for the relevant time. Wind farms supplied 2,922.5 MW, while solar and biomass-fired plants supplied 2,677.3 MW and 904.9 MW, respectively. The remaining 1,355.7 MW and 374.6 MW were generated by thermal power facilities using fossil fuels.

Philippines allocates 1.57 GW of solar in auction

Under the first round of the 2 GW Green Energy Auction Program, the Philippines’ Department of Energy awarded 19 contracts to develop 1.57 GW of renewable energy projects. Solar, hydro, wind, and biomass projects in the Philippines’ Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao regions were auctioned out. The winning bids will receive 20-year power supply agreements. The projects are planned to start up between 2023 and 2025.

Germany floats a tender for solar, wind and biomass projects

The German Federal Network Agency, Bundesnetzagentur, has issued a request for proposals for solar projects totaling 1.1 GW, onshore wind projects totaling 1.32 GW, and biomass projects totaling 274.86 MW. The solar tender’s ceiling tariff is $0.062 per kWh. In comparison to the previous three average bid prices, the ceiling tariff has increased by 8 per cent. In 2022, the agency expects to issue three tenders for 3.6 GW of solar power.

Altri to acquire Tilbury Green Power Holdings Limited for £246.5 million

Altri S.A. has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Greenvolt – Energias Renováveis S.A. (Greenvolt) has reached an agreement, together with funds managed by the Equitix Group for the acquisition of Tilbury Green Power Holdings Limited (TGPH). Ownership will be split in a proportion of 51% to Greenvolt and 49% to the funds managed by Equitix. The transaction amounts to an enterprise value of £246.5 million.

India plans mission on use of biomass in thermal plants

ndia’s ministry of power has announced that it will set up a national mission on use of biomass in coal-based thermal plants. This will help address the issue of air pollution arising from stubble burning, which is especially a concern in northern India. The mission will raise the level of biomass co-firing from present 5 per cent to higher levels to promote a higher share of renewable fuel used in thermal plants.

Clean Energy Technologies signs MoU for $15 million biomass project

Clean Energy Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ashfield Ag Resources to co-develop a biomass renewable energy processing facility. The project will utilise a high temperature ablative fast pyrolysis reactor (HTAP Biomass Reactor). The project will convert forest biomass waste products to renewably generated electricity and BioChar fertilizer. It will be located in the state of Massachusetts in the United States.

Drax has announced completion of its acquisition of Pinnacle Renewable Energy Inc. – a major producer and supplier of compressed bioenergy pellets.
