wpd offshore Australia Holding, part of Germany’s wpd Group has signed a joint venture (JV) with Australis Energy to construct three offshore wind energy projects off the coast of Australia. The three offshore wind projects will be constructed in the coastal waters of Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia, and will have a combined capacity of 1.4 GW. Australis has already started work on these three projects and has completed the first two phases of the project.

The Australian subsidiary of the wpd Group will now help accomplish Phase III of the project as part of this new JV. Environmental studies, environmental impact assessments, planning, permitting, and licensing for the projects will all be handled by wpd offshore Australia Holding. It will also be responsible for further data collection, landowner agreements, and grid access agreements.

In May 2022, Global Infrastructure Partners agreed to purchase wpd offshore. wpd offshore wind has constructed 7 GW of capacity and commenced operations in fourteen European and Asia-Pacific regions since its inception. The company has stakes in five assets in Germany, France, and Taiwan, which are either operational or under construction.

REGlobal’s Views: wpd already has a strong presence in the Asia Pacific region and this project will help the company to expand its reach in the Australian market as well.
