Apex Clean Energy and Powin, the developer of energy storage platforms, have decided to collaborate on the development of two new battery storage projects in Texas. The projects, known as Angelo Storage and Great Kiskadee Storage, will assist grid reliability in the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market and have a total capacity of 400 MWh. The 195 MW Angelo solar project will be constructed next to Angelo Storage.
Apex will develop, construct, own, and operate the two energy projects, while Powin will provide its Centipede platform and StackOS battery management system. Great Kiskadee is anticipated to launch in 2024, and Angelo in late 2023. Each facility will deliver 100 MW/200 MWh of capacity to the Texas grid with a two-hour battery duration. Together, the projects will generate more than $24.4 million in tax revenue.
In January 2022, Great River Energy and Apex Clean Energy signed an agreement to obtain renewable energy from a 400 MW wind farm in McLean County, North Dakota. The Discovery Wind project will be North Dakota’s largest wind project, with commercial operations planned for 2025. It would supply renewable energy across a 436-mile high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission system.
