In Russia’s Arctic zone, Hevel Energo Servis, a subsidiary of Russian solar energy company Hevel, has installed two off-grid power stations totalling 2.6 MW, combining diesel engines with solar PV and storage systems. The plants are located in the Far East villages of Snezhnoye and Kanchalan in the Chukotka autonomous region.

According to the company’s statement, the solar panel has a generating capability of 500 kW  and the battery system has a storage capacity of 470 kWh. Moreover, the new off-grid systems will provide stable power to 700 village households while also assisting the municipality in reducing diesel consumption by 30 per cent  and lowering diesel procurement costs.

Both developments cost the corporation approximately $2.7 million. The facilities will be operated by the area under a ten-year energy service contract. In August 2020, Hevel Group constructed 1.3 MW off-grid solar power capacity in the far East region of Russia pairing it with battery storage.
