OX2 to build 5.5 GW wind farm in Sweden

A permit application has been filed for the 5.5 GW Aurora Offshore Wind Farm in the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone by OX2, a Swedish renewable project developer. The company applied to the County Administrative Board of Gotland for a Natura 200 authorization. The projected offshore wind plant, which would be located 20 kilometres south of Gotland and 30 kilometres east of Öland, will have up to 370 turbines.

RWE wins two new onshore wind projects in Germany

In an onshore wind power infrastructure auction, the German Federal Network Agency awarded RWE two onshore wind projects. The Grevenbroich wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia has a total installed capacity of 45 MW, whereas the Bartelsdorf 2 project is in Lower Saxony. The Grevenbroich wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 17.1 MW, and construction is planned to start in the second quarter of 2022.

Risen Energy wins bid to supply 650 W PV modules in Xinjiang

Risen Energy Co., Ltd., a Chinese solar module manufacturer, has secured the contract to provide TITAN 650 W PV modules to Sinopec’s green hydrogen demonstration project in Kuqa County, Xinjiang, China. Netherlands to float a massive offshore wind bid

The Netherlands has stated that it will shortly issue a request for proposals for the construction of two new offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 1400 MW. The North Sea will be the site of the new projects. The Dutch government released laws detailing the procedure in the Government Gazette on March 9, 2022. Rosario floats an EPC tender for 113 MW solar project in Romania

Ruserio Solar, a Dhamija Group special purpose company, has invited contractors to submit expressions of interest for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a 113 MW solar power project in Romania’s Bucsani district. Japan to allocate 268.7 MW in eleventh solar auction

The final results of the latest auction for solar energy projects with a power rating of more than 250 kW have been revealed by Japan’s Green Investment Promotion Organization. According to the reports, the procurement activity, which was the eleventh of the country’s utility-scale solar auction schemes and would be the last exercise providing fixed rates, picked 273 PV projects with a combined capacity of 268.7 MW.

Macquarie Asset Management consortium to acquire Reden Solar for €2.5 billion

A consortium comprising Macquarie Asset Management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) and MEAG has agreed to acquire Reden Solar. Reden Solar is being purchased from InfraVia Capital Partners and Eurazeo for €2.5 billion. With a 762 MW active portfolio and a 15 GW development pipeline, Reden Solar develops, finances, builds, and runs solar power projects in Europe and Latin America.

ACME and Scatec partner to develop a green ammonia facility in Oman

India-based ACME Solar Private Limited has launched a 50-50 joint venture with Scatec, a company based in Norway to design, construct, build, and operate a large-scale green ammonia production facility in Oman. The facility’s initial phase is projected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year, and it will be expanded to 1.2 million tonnes per year with around 3.5 GW of electrolyser capacity, which will be powered by a solar PV plant with a capacity of 5.5 GWp.

China to construct 450 GW of renewable energy projects in deserts 

The Chinese government plans to construct 450 GW of renewable energy generating projects in the Gobi Arid and other desert areas to accomplish its sustainability goals.  The government intends to establish solar and wind energy installations in the area as part of this initiative. According to the reports, ultra-high voltage electricity transmission lines and coal-fired power plants would be required to secure the power grid’s stability in order to accommodate large-scale renewable energy installations in the country.

Vestas to stop all its four wind projects in Russia

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas plans to halt four Russian wind projects. Novoalekseevskaya, Grazhdanskaya, Ivanovskaya, and Pokrovskaya are the four projects now in the development phase. They have a total capacity of 253 MW. Vestas was selected for these projects by a partnership that included Gazprombank of Russia and Fortum of Finland.

Philippines to allow nuclear power into energy mix

The president of Philippines has signed an executive order allowing nuclear power to be included in the country’s energy mix as the government transitions away from coal-fired power facilities in order to meet its climate targets. On February 28, 2022 the order was signed and it was made public on March 3, 2022. Equinor, BP partner to develop offshore wind projects in New York

Equinor, a Norwegian energy company, has partnered with BP to transform the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT) complex in New York into a regional hub for offshore wind. The companies plan to develop the facility into an offshore wind port to accommodate their 3.3 GW of East Coast offshore wind projects. Sustainable South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SSBMT), the terminal operator, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) co-signed the agreement.

Siemens Gamesa secures a wind turbine contract in Sweden

Siemens Gamesa has signed an agreement with Eolus, a major wind power developer in the Nordic region, to deliver 16 wind turbines for upcoming wind projects in Skallberget-Utterberget and Tjarnas, Sweden. The first project, located in the Avesta Municipality in Skallberget-Utterberget, will be equipped with twelve SG 6.6-170 wind turbines that will generate approximately 74 MW of power. The second project, in Hedemora Municipality’s Tjarnas, will feature four turbines producing around 25 MW of power.

Over 190,000 plug-in PV systems are presently operational in Germany

According to a new report from the HTW Berlin – University of Applied Sciences, and German consumer association Verbraucherzentrale NRW, more than 190,000 plug-in solar devices have been installed in Germany in recent years. Up to 128,000 photovoltaic systems with a total output of up to 51 MW were installed in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
