Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) on behalf of Murchison Hydrogen Renewables Pty Ltd has selected thyssenkrupp Uhde, in partnership with DL E&C and its affiliate CARBONCO to provide a pre-FEED to assist the development of the giga-watt-scale Murchison green ammonia project in Kalbarri, Western Australia. The initiative will produce green hydrogen and green ammonia using onshore wind and solar energy.

The main purpose of pre-FEED is to improve the technological idea and start major engineering tasks for the ammonia plant. The research will be based on thyssenkrupp Uhde’s dynamic uhde ammonia synthesis technology, which has been designed expressly to address the unique problems of dynamic ammonia production. Additionally, integration engineering for the entire facility will be provided by the company. The pre-FEED will also allow Murchison Hydrogen Renewables to go on with the project’s commercial and regulatory phases.

In October 2023, the South Australian government picked the potential winners in a tender that will allow the development of a 250 MW electrolyser and hydrogen storage plant in a $374 million hub near Whyalla.
