DP Energy has obtained permission for development of its 430 MW Callide wind farm from the Australian state of Queensland’s Assessment Referral Agency. The wind farm is situated in the Calliope range, approximately 75 km from Gladstone and 22 km from Biloela and it has 70 turbines, each having a capacity of 5 to 6 MW. Every turbine has a 250 metre tip height. To gather energy to be sent to the national grid, one or more substations will be constructed.
Furthermore, the renewable energy produced by these turbines will be sufficient to provide 130,000 families in Queensland. It is anticipated that the project will last for thirty years, after which the equipment will either be removed, reinstalled, or renovated.
Reportedly, the Federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment, and Water is currently evaluating the wind project. Construction work will commence in 2024. 280 job opportunities will be created during the construction of the Callide wind farm, and 20 full-time positions will be created once it is operational. An increase in the demand for regional goods, resources, and services will also result in the creation of indirect jobs.
In September 2023, Macquarie Asset Management revealed its partnership with Perth-based Green Wind Renewables Pty Ltd to collaboratively build up to 2.4 GW portfolio of onshore wind projects in Western Australia. The companies had to collaborate on the projects as a joint venture, which might eventually grow to include more projects.
