EDF Renewables (UK and Ireland) has acquired SAS Energy, a solar energy provider for the commercial and industrial sectors. On September 15, 2023, SAS Energy became a fully owned subsidiary of EDF. EDF now owns more than 45 of SAS projects which are both in development and construction. Reportedly, the two companies have a pre-established relationship.

Additionally, both companies completed the installation of rooftop mounted solar PV at Safran’s Pitstone manufacturing facility in the south of the UK. More than 2,100 roof-mounted panels have been installed, which developers have anticipated will cover an estimated 47 per cent of daytime electricity usage between May and September.

In September 2023, Red Sea Global signed a 25-year concession agreement with French utility EDF and renewables producer Masdar to build a multi-utilities facility that would power the Amaala tourism project. The project had an off-grid renewable energy system that uses solar photovoltaic technology to produce electricity. Furthermore, along with a desalination plant and a wastewater treatment facility, it has a 700 MWh battery storage system that will provide dependable, round-the-clock power to the project.

REGlobal’s Views: This acquisition will help EDF to strengthen its position in UK’s C&I market as this deal gives the company 45 new projects. C&I market has emerged as an important and fast-growing renewable energy vertical and almost all developers (both big and small) are focusing on tapping this market.
