Ørsted, a Danish renewables company, has won contracts for an 81 MW solar farm and a 43.2 MW wind farm in the Irish government’s third onshore Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS 3) auction. Reportedly, the provisional results of the auction awarded 24 onshore wind and solar project contracts totaling 646 MW at an average strike price of $106.55 per MWh.
Furthermore, the two projects of Ørsted are the Garreenleen solar farm in Carlow and the Farranrory onshore wind farm in Tipperary. They are expected to be completed by 2030, according to the RESS 3 deadlines. These projects, with a total capacity of 124 MW, will help lower the cost of electricity compared to fossil fuel production.
In May 2023, Ørsted agreed to pay $625 million for Eversource Energy’s 50 per cent ownership in the two companies’ uncontracted federal offshore wind lease joint venture. The agreement also included contracts and partnerships that are critical to operating assets. The deal was expected to close in the third quarter of 2023 after receiving regulatory approval.
