OX2, a renewable project developer based in Sweden, has applied for a permission to build a 1.8 GW offshore wind farm off the coast of Skne in the south of the Sweden. The application was submitted under the Swedish Exclusive Economic Zone Act. The Triton wind farm, proposed by OX2, will be located 30 kilometres south of Ystad and will include up to 129 turbines with a maximum height of 370 metres. 

The offshore wind farm will be able to generate 7.5 TWh of clean energy each year, which is enough to power 1.5 million households. Triton will also be capable of displacing 4.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually once fully operational. The wind farm will be constructed on bottom fixed construction which is a well proven technology. The company has previously applied for Natura 2000 and a permit under the act of Sweden’s Exclusive Economic Zone for the offshore wind farm Galatea-Galene on the west coast of Sweden.

In December 2021, Siemens Gamesa signed a 455 MW deal with Swedish developer OX2 to supply its Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform to the Lestijärvi site for what will be Finland’s largest ever wind farm, assisting the country in making a giant leap in its energy transition.
