Iran has launched its first solar cell plant, as part of the government’s plans to considerably boost the percentage of renewable energy in the country’s power mix. Japanese electronics company, Panasonic Corporation has announced that it will look to shut down the production capacity for solar products at its facilities in Malaysia and Japan by the end of the financial year 2022. The company currently manufactures solar wafers, cells, and modules at its facility in Malaysia. It will look to liquidate its subsidiary, Panasonic Solar Energy Malaysia, and lay off its employees by March 2022.

Vsun, which is a unit of Japan-based electrical equipment company Fuji Solar Co Ltd, is planning to set up a solar cell and module manufacturing facility in the Hoà Phú Industrial Zone in the Bắc Giang province, in the northeast part of Vietnam. The factory is expected to be built by end-2022 and to have an annual solar module production capacity of 4 GW and a cell capacity of 2 GW.

Trina Solar has signed an agreement with the Yancheng Economic Development Zone, Jiangsu Province, China to build an 8.5GW advanced solar cell plant at a cost of approximately RMB 3.0 billion (USD460 million). The agreement is for Trina Solar’s planned expansions of its Vertex 210mm large-area module production.
