Amazon and Global Optimism have announced that Infosys has joined The Climate Pledge to make a commitment to meet its Paris Agreement goals by 2040. Signatories of The Climate Pledge commit to become net carbon zero across their businesses by 2040, a decade before the Paris Accord’s goal of 2050.

By signing this agreement, Infosys has agreed to:

  • Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis;
  • Implement decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies;
  • Neutralize any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040

Infosys has been working actively towards decarbonization of its businesses. It had made a voluntary commitment in 2011, long before the Paris Agreement, to become carbon neutral.

Infosys is also a signatory to RE100 and is committed to completely shift to renewable power for its electricity needs. According to reports, Infosys has already invested in 60 MW of captive solar PV capacity and nearly 45 per cent of its electricity is sourced from renewable sources.

Infosys also has an energy efficiency program that helped the company reduce its per-capita electricity consumption by 55 per cent since 2008.
