DEWA receives bids for sixth phase of Dubai solar park

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) notified that it has received bids from four international firms for the consultancy contract for the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The company stated that the next phase of the 5 GW field will have a power generation potential of 900 MW. After completion of the project in 2030, it is expected to have a capacity of 5 GW of solar and concentrating solar power (CSP) capacity.

CEB floats bids for 30 MW solar projects in Sri Lanka

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has floated bids to build, own, and operate 30 MW of ground mounted and floating solar projects in Sri Lanka. The capacities in the project would range from 1 MW to 5 MW for a period of 20 years. The scope of the project includes assessment of environmental impacts of proposed solar power projects and obtaining all necessary environmental clearances and approvals from the authorities in accordance with Central Environmental Authority guidelines.

Iberdrola starts commissioning 100 MW solar projects in Spain

Iberdrola, a Spanish energy company, has started commissioning two solar power facilities in Extremadura, a part of western Spain bordering Portugal. The Majada Alta and San Antonio power plants are in Cedillo, Cáceres. The two solar photovoltaic (PV) plants will have a combined capacity of 100 MW, which is sufficient to power 45,000 households.

QatarEnergy awards Samsung C&T a large solar contract

QatarEnergy, a Qatari state-owned petroleum company, has given a $630.33 million contract to South Korean engineering and construction firm Samsung C&T to build its industrial cities solar power project (IC Solar). The agreement is for the construction of two solar photovoltaic (PV) plants with an 875 MW total capacity for clean power generation.

New Energy proposes sale of $244 million US solar portfolio

New Energy Solar, an Australian firm, has entered into a binding agreement with a subsidiary of MN8 Energy, formerly known as Goldman Sachs Renewable Power, to sell its US solar asset portfolio for A$352 million. The portfolio consists of 14 solar assets, and the deal would result in New Energy Solar being closed. Shareholders of New Energy Solar will initially receive A$0.82 for each share within six business days of the proposed deal, as per the provisions of the legally binding agreement.

EiDF Solar purchases 252 MW solar project portfolio in Spain

EIDF Solar, a Spanish energy company, has announced the purchase of four solar projects in Spain with a combined capacity of 252 MWp. Two of the four projects, with a combined capacity of 102 MWp, are situated in Castilla La Mancha and are connected to the transmission grid. Reportedly, both projects are in the advanced processing stage and have already secured the necessary authorisations, licences, and land.

Cero to develop solar project with Ameresco and Sunel in Greece

For a 100 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Greece, the UK-based solar energy developer Cero Generation has selected Ameresco Energy Hellas and Sunel Group as its partners. Greece’s Prosotsani Drama region will be responsible for the construction of the Delfini solar PV project. According to reports, it is the first solar project in the country to use a power purchase agreement and not receive any form of government subsidy on electricity expenses.

Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW), a German energy company, sold its 49.9 per cent stake in a portfolio of 597 MW solar projects to Alte Leipziger Hallesche Insurance Group (ALH Group). The solar portfolio consists of 16 solar power parks spread over several German states, including Saxony, Baden-Württemberg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Baden-Württemberg, and Rhineland-Palatinate.

Iberdrola, a Spanish energy company, has begun operations at the Francisco Pizarro solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Extremadura, Spain. The 590MW solar project is situated between the municipalities of Torrecillas de la Tiesta and Aldeacentenera (Cáceres). Masdar reaches financial close for solar facility in Azerbaijan

Masdar, a state-owned energy company in the UAE, has reached financial close on its Garadagh solar photovoltaic plant in Azerbaijan. The 230 MW solar project is the company’s first in Azerbaijan, as well as the country’s first independently funded solar project. Garadagh will be able to produce 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power over 110,000 homes.

EDP Renováveis (EDPR), a Portuguese company specialising in renewable energy, invested $256 million to acquire a 70 per cent stake in Kronos Solar Projects, a company based in Germany. Currently, Kronos’ portfolio of solar projects totals 9.4 GW, and they are spread out across the UK, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. The solar portfolio includes projects in Germany that make up about 50 per cent of the total and are in various phases of development.

TotalEnergies and Veolia to build a solar desalination system in Oman

TotalEnergies and Veolia have agreed to start constructing a large solar project to power a desalination plant. Located in the city of Sur in Oman, the power plant will be located on the site of the Sharqiyah Desalination Plant. This project supplies drinking water to more than 600,000 people in the Sharqiyah region and is quite important for the region. This 17 MWp solar project will be the region’s first of its kind when it is installed.

SolarDuck, RWE partner on floating solar technology pilot in North Sea

In order to develop the usage of floating solar parks in the sea and integrate them into an offshore wind farm to build a multi-source renewable energy project, the German sustainable energy company RWE and offshore solar energy developer SolarDuck have signed a collaboration agreement. In its proposal for the Dutch offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust West (HKW VII) for system integration, RWE selected SolarDuck as the sole supplier of offshore floating solar technology with integrated storage.

DEWA plans $11 billion investments for clean energy expansion

In the next five years, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) intends to invest $10.88 billion in capital projects, including boosting its clean energy and renewable energy projects. It intends to invest $3.26 billion to complete the independent water producer projects at Hassyan, the Hassyan Power Complex, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

Greater Scope for Renewables in ASEAN

Solar and wind generated only 4% of the ASEAN 5’s electricity last year, lagging behind peers like China (11%) and India (8%). Among the ASEAN 5, only Viet Nam (11%) exceeds the world average in solar and wind, which generated 10% of global electricity for the first time in 2021. The rest is still below 5%. The vast potential of clean energy in the ASEAN 5 is unfortunately not reflected in its latest 2030 plans.

US DOI grants permission for construction of key transmission project

Apollo Global Management, a private equity firm based in the US, has completed a $175 million strategic investment in Summit Ridge Energy, a company that operates solar power plants across the country. Summit Ridge Energy intends to use the funds to broaden its geographic reach and scale its platform. Summit Ridge Energy has formed two joint ventures worth more than $1 billion since its inception in 2017.

Scatec and partners start construction of 531 MW solar facility in Brazil

The 531 MW Mendubim solar project in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, is currently being developed by the Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec and its partners. Equinor and Hydro Rein are partners in the project’s development. The three firms will jointly provide engineering, procurement, and construction services while also each holding a 33.3 per cent economic interest in the solar power project.
