TGS, a Norwegian energy data and technology provider, has expanded its multi-client offshore wind and metocean measurement campaign along the US East Coast. The company has deployed additional four buoys to enhance its existing data collection and wind modelling. These complement TGS’ floating light detection and ranging (LiDAR) buoy in the New York Bight.

DTEK to complete first phase of wind power project in Ukraine

DTEK Group, a Ukrainian energy investor, has completed the first phase of Ukraine’s Tyligulska wind power project. The first phase of the wind power facility, located in the Mykolaiv region, has a capacity of 114 MW, while the whole project will have a capacity of 500 MW. The facility’s Phase I includes 19 wind turbines and is intended to help Ukraine’s energy balance.

CIP purchases majority stake in Mulilo Energy

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a Danish investment firm, has purchased a majority stake in South African renewable energy developer Mulilo Energy Holdings for an undisclosed sum. The deal was carried out by CIP through its Copenhagen Infrastructure New Markets Fund I (CI NMF I). Mulilo’s existing founders and management will remain on board following the acquisition.

US BOEM Proposes First Offshore Wind Auction in the Gulf of Mexico

On February 24, 2023, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) published a Proposed Sale Notice (PSN) in the Federal Register that includes three proposed lease areas in the Gulf of Mexico for offshore wind development. One lease area is in the Lake Charles Wind Energy Area (WEA), offshore of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and two are in the Galveston WEA, offshore of Galveston, Texas.

Equinor and Petrobras to evaluate offshore projects in Brazil

Equinor, the Norwegian energy company, and Petrobras, the Brazilian multinational energy corporation, have signed a letter of intent (LoI) to examine seven offshore wind projects in Brazil. The offshore projects, which will be located off the coast of Brazil, will have the capacity to generate up to 14.5 GW of renewable energy in total.

Inpex to buy stakes in two Dutch offshore wind farms in the UK

Inpex, a Japanese oil company, has purchased a 16.7 per cent interest in the UK’s Moray East offshore wind farm. The transaction was completed through an agreement between Inpex Renewable Energy Europe (INPEX Renewable) and Diamond Generating Europe, a UK subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation (DGE). This agreement was executed to transfer stock in Diamond Generating Europe Investments from DGE to Inpex Renewable.

TenneT awards $1.9 billion offshore cable contracts to Prysmian and NKT

TenneT, the Dutch-German energy network operator, has awarded offshore cable systems contracts to Prysmian and NKT for two grid connection projects in the Netherlands. The IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek I projects will link two future offshore wind farms in the Dutch North Sea to the province of Zeeland in the country’s southwest. In total, the two contracts are estimated to be worth $1.9 billion.

ACWA Power to develop 1 GW renewable energy project in Kazakhstan

ACWA Power, based in Saudi Arabia, has agreed to construct a 1 GW wind and battery storage project in Kazakhstan. The company inked a project deal with the Kazakhstan government and the country’s sovereign wealth fund, Samruk-Kazyna. By this agreement, ACWA Power enters Kazakhstan’s renewable energy market. The company has also pledged to make an initial $1.5 billion investment to promote national climate action, the integration of renewable energy sources, and sustainable growth.

New Actions for US Offshore Wind Expansion

For the first time, the Department of the Interior (DOI) is announcing a proposed offshore wind lease sale for three areas in the Gulf of Mexico, offshore Texas and Louisiana. These areas have the potential to generate enough clean energy to power almost 1.3 million homes. The proposed auction includes provisions that would incentivize new investments in workforce training and a domestic supply chain, to expand economic opportunities across offshore wind manufacturing, port operations, and more.

Vestas to supply turbines for 1.6 GW wind project in Germany

RWE and Northland Power have selected Vestas, a Danish wind turbine manufacturer, as the preferred turbine provider for their Nordseecluster wind project in Germany. The four offshore wind farms that make up the 1.6 GW Nordseecluster project are situated in the German North Sea to the north of the island of Juist. Vestas will supply 104 of its V236-15.0MW offshore wind turbines once the project receives a final investment decision. The company will also service Nordseecluster under a multi-year operations and maintenance contract.

Repsol to buy 250 MW renewable portfolio in Spain

Repsol, a Spanish energy company, has agreed to buy ABO Wind’s 250 MW portfolio of renewable energy sources in Spain. The Palencia-based portfolio consists of two solar projects with a combined capacity of 100 MW and three wind farms with a combined capacity of 150 MW. ABO Wind will be responsible for developing these projects for Repsol under the terms of the deal. No financial details of the deal have been disclosed.

Octopus Energy to buy additional stake in Lincs offshore project

Octopus Energy, a UK-based energy company, has increased its shareholding in the 270 MW Lincs offshore wind farm off the east coast of England. The fund management group of Octopus Energy Generation expanded its share in the project from 23.25 to 31.5 per cent by purchasing an additional 7.75 per cent of the 270 MW offshore facility. With this agreement, Octopus has invested $1 billion in offshore wind assets in less than a year.

Galileo and Hope Group to develop offshore wind farm in Italy

Galileo and Hope Group, two European renewable energy companies, have formed a joint venture (JV) to develop the offshore wind farm in Italy’s Adriatic Sea. The JV will construct the 1.1 GW floating wind plant, known as Barium Bay, 40 km off the coast, stretching from Barium to the north of Barletta. The Barium Bay offshore wind farm will produce enough clean energy to provide more than one million Italian homes.

Repsol Ibereolica completes 165 MW wind farm in Huasco, Chile

Repsol Ibereolica Renovables Chile, a Repsol and Ibereólica Renovables Group joint venture, has completed the 165.3MW Atacama wind farm in Huasco, Chile. The facility has the ability to produce 450 GWh of renewable energy annually, which is sufficient to power more than 150,000 Chilean households while displacing 320,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. It is outfitted with 29 Nordex N163 wind turbines, which have already begun to feed the grid with their first megawatt-hours of fully renewable energy.

Enefit Green awards Nordex Group order for 255 MW in Estonia

Nordex Group, a German wind turbine manufacturer, has received a turbine order from Enefit Green for a 255 MW onshore wind cluster in Estonia. As part of the agreement, Nordex will provide 38 of its N163/6.X wind turbines to the Tootsi, Sopi I, and Sopi II wind farms.  Sopi I, Sopi II, and Tootsi will be built in Nord Pärnu, forming the most powerful wind project cluster in the Baltic states to date.

Repsol begins producing energy at PI wind project in Spain

Repsol, a Spanish energy company, has started producing clean energy at PI, its first renewable project in Castilla y León. The PI project, which is situated in the provinces of Palencia and Valladolid, consists of seven wind farms with a total installed capacity of 175 MW. It will be able to produce 596 GWh of renewable energy annually, which is enough to supply the needs of 170,900 households on average.

Equinor and SSE Renewables set to expand Dogger Bank project

Equinor, the Norwegian oil company, and SSE Renewables, the Irish renewable energy provider, have decided to look into expanding the Dogger Bank Wind Farm. The companies intend to start early scoping work on the Dogger Bank D fourth phase of the offshore wind farm. The proposed Dogger Bank D development, which will add 1.32 GW to the 3.6 GW of current capacity at the project, will be owned equally by Equinor and SSE Renewables.
