TenneT, the Dutch-German energy network operator, has awarded offshore cable systems contracts to Prysmian and NKT for two grid connection projects in the Netherlands. The IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek I projects will link two future offshore wind farms in the Dutch North Sea to the province of Zeeland in the country’s southwest. In total, the two contracts are estimated to be worth $1.9 billion.
Prysmian, an Italian cable supplier, will design, engineer, produce, install, test, and commission two 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine and land cable systems for the two offshore wind farms. IJmuiden Ver Alpha has a roughly 176 km total route length, whilst Nederwiek I has an around 217 km total route length.
In collaboration with Deme Group, Prysmian stated that it would execute the marine installation operations using its cable-laying vessels. The IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma, and Nederwiek II cable connections at Maasvlakte, Port of Rotterdam, will be handled by the Danish cable company NKT.
