Netherlands floats a tender for 4 GW offshore wind projects

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, through Netherlands Enterprise Agency, has initiated a 4 GW offshore wind tender which aims to award two permits in early 2024, dividing them between plot Alpha (2 GW) and plot Beta (2 GW). Future plans involve adding another plot, eventually increasing the total capacity to 6 GW. These designated areas are part of the IJmuiden Ver wind farm zone in the North Sea. The deadline for bid submissions is March 28, 2024.

Eurus obtains approval for electrolyser project in the Netherlands

Eurus Energy, a Japanese wind power company, has obtained licences to construct a 20 MW electrolyser facility in the Netherlands. The project will generate green hydrogen for the industry hub, Chemie Park Delfzijl, in the region of Groningen. The Japanese company is completing the project’s design and contracts through its subsidiary Eurus Energy Europe BV while preparing for an investment decision in 2024.

HyCC contracts McPhy and Technip Energies for 20 MW Dutch green hydrogen project

HyCC has contracted McPhy and Technip Energies for the electrolyser supply, design and construction of a 20MW green hydrogen plant planned for the Netherlands. Set to be operated by HyCC using McPhy electrolysers, the ‘Djewels’ plant will produce 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. Its offtake is anticipated to be supplied to OCI Methanol Europe for the production of renewable methanol.

UK, Netherlands plan 2 GW cross-border offshore wind link

National Grid and TenneT have unveiled plans for LionLink, an innovative cross-border direct current cable that will connect offshore wind between the UK and the Netherlands.  The LionLink project is a multi-purpose or hybrid interconnector that will connect up to 2 GW of offshore wind capacity between the British and Dutch electricity systems. It will be only the second hybrid interconnector in the world and significantly larger than its predecessor, Germany and Denmark’s 400 MW Kriegers Flag link that connects two offshore substations in the Baltic Sea.

Netherlands plans 500 MW hydrogen-from-offshore wind project

The Government of the Netherlands has announced plans to use offshore wind power to produce significant amounts of offshore hydrogen. The project will be built in the North of the Wadden Islands wind energy sector and will have a capacity for electrolysis of about 500 MW. It is anticipated to start operating in 2031. Reportely, the site also offers the possibility to reuse an existing natural gas pipeline to send hydrogen ashore. The project will be the first to connect to Gasunie’s offshore hydrogen network, details of which will be decided this year, according to the announcement

TenneT awards $1.9 billion offshore cable contracts to Prysmian and NKT

TenneT, the Dutch-German energy network operator, has awarded offshore cable systems contracts to Prysmian and NKT for two grid connection projects in the Netherlands. The IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek I projects will link two future offshore wind farms in the Dutch North Sea to the province of Zeeland in the country’s southwest. In total, the two contracts are estimated to be worth $1.9 billion.

Australia, Netherlands sign MoU on green hydrogen

Australia and the Netherlands have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the construction of a green hydrogen supply chain from Australia to Europe via the Port of Rotterdam. During Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen’s visit to Europe, the MoU was signed between him and the Netherlands Minister for Climate and Energy. Ecowende, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco, has won a bid to develop a 760 MW offshore wind facility at Hollandse Kust (west) VI in the Netherlands. RWE to acquire 1.4 GW Dutch ‘hydrogen-ready’ power plant

RWE, a German energy company, has agreed to acquire the 1.4 GW Magnum gas-fired power plant in the Netherlands from Vattenfall for $534 million. Magnum has been in operation since 2013 at Eemshaven, in the Dutch province of Groningen. Reportedly, the power plant is ‘hydrogen-ready,’ which means it can run on hydrogen partially or completely.

Four European countries have set a 150 GW offshore wind target

Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark inked an agreement in Esbjerg to produce 65 GW of offshore wind energy and 150 GW of green hydrogen by 2030 and 2050, respectively. Netherlands to float a massive offshore wind bid

The Netherlands has stated that it will shortly issue a request for proposals for the construction of two new offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 1400 MW. The North Sea will be the site of the new projects. The Dutch government released laws detailing the procedure in the Government Gazette on March 9, 2022. According to the notification, wind farm lots 6 and 7 will each have a capacity of 700 MW.

Neptune Energy to host green hydrogen project in the Netherlands

Neptune Energy, a UK-based independent company, will host the world’s first offshore green hydrogen project – PosHYdon – on an active oil or gas platform in the Dutch North Sea. The project will be hosted 13 km off the coast of Scheveningen. The 1 MW electrolyzer will be capable of producing up to 400 kg of green hydrogen each day.
