ABO Energy signs agreement for 600 MW green hydrogen project in Finland

ABO Energy and the City of Oulu have signed a cooperation agreement to advance a large-scale green hydrogen project in northern Finland. The project, to be developed over 41 hectares, would reportedly have 600 MW of expandable electrolyser capacity across two to three development phases. The project, located in the Pyyryväinen green transition zone, follows a site reservation secured in 2025.

OMV Petrom expands green hydrogen production at Petrobrazi refinery

OMV Petrom has completed the delivery of all seven modules for its 35 MW green hydrogen electrolyser at the Petrobrazi refinery in Romania. The project, supplied by Neuman & Esser, consists of seven 5 MW electrolysis modules and is currently being integrated into the refinery infrastructure. Together with the earlier announced 20 MW electrolyser, Petrobrazi’s total green hydrogen production capacity will reach 55 MW.

Ballard acquires UK hydrogen company GeoPura 

Ballard Power Systems has completed the acquisition of UK-based GeoPura. GeoPura, founded in 2019, designs, manufactures and operates hydrogen power units (HPUs) for off-grid power applications. The HPUs use Ballard fuel cell modules to convert hydrogen into clean electricity. Furthermore, the transaction involves upfront consideration of £275 million, including £82.5 million in cash and newly issued Ballard common shares.

Air Products and Nobian sign hydrogen agreement

Nobian and Air Products have entered into a long-term agreement for the offtake of RFNBO-compliant, certified hydrogen produced at Nobian’s facility in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The hydrogen is generated through a renewable energy-powered chlor-alkali electrolysis plant, which has a production capacity of more than 14,000 tonnes per year. By supplying certified RFNBO hydrogen through existing infrastructure, Air Products will help customers meet the Netherlands’ RED III requirements while strengthening Rotterdam’s position as a hydrogen hub.

Why underground hydrogen storage in Europe matters for a low-carbon energy system?

Europe’s energy system is entering a decisive transformation. Energy storage is therefore increasingly critical. Short-duration options smooth intraday variability and support hourly and daily balancing. But when imbalances last beyond roughly 8–10 hours, direct electricity storage hits technical and economic limits. At that point, only large-scale, long-duration storage can cover overnight, multi-day, or seasonal stress events. Until now, underground gas storage has been the primary source of large-scale system resilience, and it continues to play a critical role. In a low-carbon system, underground hydrogen storage will take over this role, delivering long-duration flexibility with clean molecules.

Tyczka Hydrogen acquires green hydrogen facility in Germany

Tyczka Hydrogen has acquired a hydrogen production, filling and refuelling facility located in Hünfeld-Michelsrombach, Germany. ABO Energy developed, constructed and operated the facility before the acquisition. The facility combines a 5 MW proton exchange membrane electrolyser, trailer filling station and a 350-bar hydrogen refuelling station. The project will add 400-600 tonnes of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO)-certified green hydrogen production capacity annually to Tyczka Hydrogen’s portfolio.

South Korea plans green hydrogen complex at Saemangeum

Korea South-East Power (KOEN) and the Saemangeum Development Agency have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a large-scale green hydrogen complex in Saemangeum, South Korea. The proposed project will integrate solar power generation, green hydrogen production and hydrogen-fired power generation in Buan, North Jeolla Province. Furthermore, the project is planned for 1 GW of onshore solar capacity with 320 MW of water electrolysis capacity and 100 MW of hydrogen-only power generation.

KBR to provide Pre-FEED for Moroccan green ammonia project 

KBR has been selected by ORNX Green Hydrogen to provide pre-front-end engineering design (Pre-FEED)  services and technology licensing for a low-carbon ammonia project located in the Laâyoune region in Morocco.  The project is supported by the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) funding. The project will use approximately 900 MW of electrolyzer capacity.

CFM closes ZAR 3 billion hydrogen fund in South Africa

Climate Fund Managers (CFM) has announced the first close of the SA-H2 fund with commitments of approximately ZAR 3 billion in South Africa. The fund will invest in large-scale energy-transition projects across the green hydrogen value chain, including green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methanol and industrial decarbonisation. The fund comprises a development tranche alongside blended equity tranches.

EU approves €780 million green hydrogen scheme for Netherlands

The European Commission has approved a €780 million state aid scheme to support up to 400 MW of green hydrogen production capacity in the Netherlands. The funding will be awarded through a competitive bidding process by early 2027, with selected projects receiving 10-year variable per-kilogramme subsidies. The scheme will also provide direct grants covering up to 80 percent of eligible investment costs for selected green hydrogen projects.

Protium secures approval for Scottish green hydrogen project

Protium has received planning permission from the Highland Council for the 15 MW Cromarty Green Hydrogen Production Facility (CGHPF). The project is located in Alness, Scotland.The project represents the first phase of the Highland Hydrogen Hub. Furthermore, Protium acquired the Cromarty project in May 2026. The project is the only hydrogen project in Scotland to secure support under the UK Government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 through a contract for difference (CfD).

Indonesia unveils 194 km green hydrogen corridor 

The Government of Indonesia has unveiled plans to develop a 194 km Green Hydrogen Corridor linking Jakarta, Karawang and Patimban as part of its strategy to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and strengthen national energy security. The initiative was announced during the 2026 Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES) and is designed to establish an integrated hydrogen supply chain connecting green hydrogen production plants, hydrogen refuelling stations, industrial zones, logistics hubs, ports and end users.

Metacon secures funding for green hydrogen project in Sweden

Metacon AB has secured up to SEK 111 million in Klimatklivet funding to develop a 10 MW green hydrogen electrolysis plant at the Hovgården waste management facility in Uppsala, Sweden, covering 55 per cent of the SEK 202 million project cost. The facility is expected to produce around 1,480 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, supplying industrial users and hydrogen refuelling stations across Central Sweden.

Orica reaches FID on Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub in Australia

Orica has reached the final investment decision (FID) for the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub (HVHH) in Australia. The project will be a commercial-scale renewable hydrogen facility integrated with Orica’s ammonia manufacturing plant at Kooragang Island in New South Wales. The project will produce approximately 4,700 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually, enabling the production of around 26,600 tonnes of low-carbon ammonia.

Hy2gen Nordic’s Albatros renewable hydrogen project located in Kassø, Denmark, has been selected for support under the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB). The project will feature a 100 MW electrolyser producing RFNBO-certified renewable hydrogen for industrial customers in Germany and across Europe. The project is expected to produce approximately 144,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen over a period of 10 years.

Ohmium International and Hynfra P.S.A. have signed a cooperation agreement to advance green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Mauritania, Jordan, and Oman. The agreement covers the FEED stage and establishes a framework for continued collaboration across the three projects. Under the partnership, Ohmium will provide technical support and expertise in PEM electrolyser technology during the FEED and project development phases.

ENGIE and European Energy partner on 150 MW Danish green hydrogen project

ENGIE and European Energy have signed an agreement to develop a large-scale renewable hydrogen project in Aabenraa Municipality, Denmark. The project will feature an electrolyser with a capacity of up to 150 MW and is planned to connect to the future Danish-German Hydrogen Backbone infrastructure. The facility will be developed close to an industrial-scale e-methanol plant, owned by Mitsui & Co. and European Energy.

H-Power to supply 5,000 kg green hydrogen to Protium in UK

H-Power has secured a contract to supply 5,000 kg of fuel cell-grade green hydrogen to Protium in UK. The sale follows regulatory approval from the Environment Agency allowing H-Power to supply hydrogen from the facility to third-party customers until August 2026. The hydrogen, produced from bio-ammonia, meets ISO 14687 Grade D standards with 99.97 percent purity, making it suitable for PEM fuel cell applications.

European Energy secures funding for 150 MW green hydrogen project in Denmark 

European Energy has been selected as one of the three projects to receive support under Germany’s hydrogen auction framework linked to the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB). The company has been awarded funding of up to €228 million to support the development of an additional 150 MW of hydrogen production capacity in Denmark. The project will support the decarbonisation of industrial processes and transport sectors across Europe.
