Lyra Energy secures financial close for 255 MW solar project in South Africa

Lyra Energy, a joint venture of Scatec in South Africa, has achieved financial close for the 255 MW Thakadu solar project and has commenced construction. The project will be implemented in two phases. Construction activities for the first phase have begun, while the second phase is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. The commercial operations date for the first phase is expected during the first half of 2027.

EIB funds three solar projects in Romania

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed approximately €34 million to support the construction and operation of three solar projects in southwestern Romania. The projects will have a combined capacity of 190 MW and are expected to generate enough electricity to supply more than 160,000 households. They will be located in the Olt and Dolj counties in the Oltenia region, near the Danube river and the Bulgarian border.

Scatec inks PPA for solar-plus-storage project in Egypt

Scatec ASA has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for the development of a solar-plus-storage project in Egypt. The agreement covers 1.95 GW of solar generation capacity and 3.9 GWh of battery storage. As per this arrangement, Scatec will develop one integrated solar and battery storage hybrid project, alongside two standalone battery energy storage systems.

Scatec begins operations of 273 MW solar plant in South Africa

Scatec ASA has commenced commercial operations of the 273 MW Grootfontein solar project in South Africa. The project, located in the Western Cape, will supply electricity under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). It is expected to produce 700 GWh of electricity annually. The project is anticipated to offset around 630,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Scatec inks PPA for 130 MW solar plant in Colombia

Scatec has entered into a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with BTG Pactual Comercializadora de Energía, a Colombian energy trading subsidiary of Banco BTG Pactual S.A. Brazil. The agreement will secure about 85 per cent of the output from a 130 MW solar project, while the rest of it will be traded in Colombia’s electricity market. The project will be Scatec’s first in Colombia. The total capital expenditure is estimated at $110 million.

Scatec secures financing for solar project in Brazil

Scatec ASA has reached financial close for its 142 MW solar PV plant currently under construction in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The non-recourse project financing includes $27 million from Banco de Nordeste do Brasil, covering 30 per cent of the total estimated capital expenditure of $91 million. The project is expected to achieve commercial operation in the first half of 2026.

Scatec inks PPA for 120 MW solar plant in Tunisia

Scatec has inked a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 120 MW solar power plant named Sidi Bouzid II in Tunisia. The PPA has been signed with Tunisian state utility Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG). Scatec also inked a joint development agreement, with Aeolus SAS which is a part of the Japanese conglomerate Toyota Tsusho Group, for the solar plant. Furthermore, the estimated total capital expenditure for the project is €87 million.

Scatec secures €30 million grant for Egypt green hydrogen project

Scatec ASA’s Egypt Green Hydrogen project has signed an agreement with the PtX Development Fund, securing a €30 million grant to partially fund the project. The total capital expenditure for the initiative is projected at approximately €500 million. The PtX Development Fund aims to support Power-to-X projects in developing and emerging nations.

Scatec and partners start construction of 531 MW solar facility in Brazil

The 531 MW Mendubim solar project in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, is currently being developed by the Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec and its partners. Equinor and Hydro Rein are partners in the project’s development. The three firms will jointly provide engineering, procurement, and construction services while also each holding a 33.3 per cent economic interest in the solar power project.

ACME and Scatec partner to develop a green ammonia facility in Oman

India-based ACME Solar Private Limited has launched a 50-50 joint venture with Scatec, a company based in Norway to design, construct, build, and operate a large-scale green ammonia production facility in Oman. The facility’s initial phase is projected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year, and it will be expanded to 1.2 million tonnes per year with around 3.5 GW of electrolyser capacity, which will be powered by a solar PV plant with a capacity of 5.5 GWp.

Scatec and its partners selects Plug Power for delivery of 100 MW electrolyser

Plug Power Inc. has been selected by Scatec and its partners, OCI NV, Fertiglobe, the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and Orascom Construction as the technology provider of electrolyser for the 100 MW green hydrogen facility to be built at the Egyptian Basic Industries Corporation SAE (EBIC) facility in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. Green ammonia will be made from the hydrogen.

Scatec plans to build a green hydrogen plant in Egypt

Scatec of Norway has announced proposals to build a green hydrogen plant in Ain Sokhna, Egypt, in collaboration with Fertiglobe and the Egyptian Sovereign Fund. The electrolyser will be 50 MW to 100 MW in size. The project, which will be created as part of Scatec’s “Power to X” plan, will produce green hydrogen for use as a feedstock in the creation of green ammonia.

Scatec starts construction of 55 MW solar farm in Ukraine

Norwegian company Scatec has grid-connected and begun commercial operation of a 55 MW solar farm in Ukraine’s Cherkasy area. The project will receive a feed-in-tariff payment and is estimated to produce around 64 GWh of electricity per year. The solar plant is designed to last for more than 30 years and it will also provide clean energy to over 28,000 families each year. This is Scatec’s fifth project in Ukraine since its entry in the country in 2017.
