Gotion Power secures AfDB loan for battery factory in Morocco

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved a €100 million loan to Gotion Power Morocco for the development of an integrated cathode-to-cell lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery factory. The facility will be located in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Free Trade Zone. Phase 1 of the project will deliver 10 GWh of battery cell and pack production capacity, with plans to expand to 100 GWh.

Malaysia launches 2.5 GW solar and 1.25 GW BESS tender

Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced the sixth round of its Large-Scale Solar (LSS6) programme, targeting 2.5 GW of solar capacity paired with 1.25 GW of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The tender will be implemented in three lots, with the first lot comprising 2.2 GW solar and 1.1 GW BESS package open to all developers.

Yanara secures €150 million to develop 2 GW renewables in Australia

Yanara has secured a €150 million investment from Mirova to accelerate the development of its utility-scale renewable energy portfolio in Australia. The funding will support more than 2 GW of solar, wind and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. A significant share of this investment will be directed to the Yanara’s Mortlake Energy hub in Victoria.

Spearmint Energy secures approval for 600 MWh Minnesota BESS

Spearmint Energy has received approval from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for the Midwater energy storage project. The project includes a 150 MW/600 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) located in Freeborn County, Minnesota. The project will be built on 10-20 acres of land adjacent to the Glenworth Substation. The Midwater BESS project is Spearmint’s second BESS project to secure state permitting in Minnesota, following the approved Snowshoe Energy Storage Project in Olmsted County.

Fidra Energy achieves financial close on 1.1 GWh UK BESS project

Fidra Energy has reached financial close on its 500 MW/1.1 GWh West Burton C battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Nottinghamshire, UK. The project received financing of around £231 million in loan facilities from a consortium of international lenders. The loan facilities consists of a term loan and ancillary facilities. Project construction is expected to commence later in 2026, with commercial operations expected in 2028.

Avantus signs PPA for solar-plus-BESS project in California

Avantus has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Clean Power Alliance (CPA) for the Rexford 2 solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The project is located in Tulare County, California. It will combine 200 MWac of solar generation with 200 MW/800 MWh of battery energy storage. Additionally, it will supply enough clean electricity to power around 84,000 homes.

AfDB backs Egypt’s 500 MW solar plus storage project 

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved a financing package for the first phase of the 500 MW Dandara solar project with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project is located in Qena Governorate, Egypt. The $66 million financing comprises $46 million from the Bank’s ordinary resources and $20 million from the Climate Investment Funds’ Clean Technology Fund, with additional debt expected from development finance institutions.

MGEN commissions phase 1 of MTerra hybrid project in Philippines

Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN), together with its partners, has inaugurated Phase 1 of the MTerra Solar Project in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Phase 1 of the project comprises 1,373 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity and 825 MW/3,300 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity. Under Phase 1, more than 2,000 MWdc of solar panels have been installed, while all 741 battery units have been fully energized.

India’s BESS market moves towards larger-scale deployment

India’s battery energy storage system (BESS) is witnessing growing momentum as storage assumes a larger role in supporting renewable energy integration and grid reliability. As of May 2026, Renewable Watch Research has tracked over 29,000 MWh of standalone BESS capacity under bidding. The awarded standalone BESS capacity has crossed 35,000 MWh, while more than 2,000 MWh is currently under construction. Operational standalone BESS capacity has exceeded 4,700 MWh. In the FDRE and RE+ESS segments, over 4,500 MW of capacity remains under bidding, while awarded capacity exceeds 17,000 MW. Around 9,400 MW is currently under construction, and operational capacity stands at approximately 630 MW.

GIGA Storage secures financing for 2,800 MWh Belgian BESS 

GIGA Storage has secured financing for the Green Turtle battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Dilsen-Stokkem, Belgium. The project has an installed capacity of 700 MW/2,800 MWh. A consortium of 10 international banks including ABN AMRO, ING, Rabobank, Triodos Bank, Triodos Investment Management, asr, Belfius, HCOB, Santander, and SMBC is providing €450 million in debt financing for the project.

Avantus secures $525 million for Aratina 2 hybrid project in California

Avantus has secured approximately $525 million in financing for the Aratina 2 solar and battery energy storage (BESS) project located in Kern County, California. The project financing was provided by BBVA, CIBC, and Santander. The financing package includes construction funding, a tax equity bridge loan, and letters of credit. The project, currently under construction, will deliver 150 MWac of solar capacity and 452 MWh of BESS capacity by the end of 2026.

METLEN has acquired a 40 per cent stake in a special purpose vehicle (SPV) owned by Tsakos Group to jointly develop a hybrid renewable energy project in Greece. The project will comprise a 251.9 MW solar photovoltaic plant coupled with a 375 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The SPV will oversee the project’s development, construction, operation, energy management, and commercial management.

Quinbrook Renewables Impact Fund II raises GBP 587 million 

Quinbrook has achieved the final close of its Quinbrook Renewables Impact Fund (QRIF II), raising GBP 587 million through the fund, surpassing its GBP 500 million target.The fund will invest in renewable energy, energy storage, and grid infrastructure across the UK and Ireland to support their 2030 clean energy goals. Key projects under the fund include the 373 MWdc Mallard Pass Solar Project in England, the 963 MVA.s Wexford Synchronous Consider Project in Ireland, Project Norton combining 65 MW solar with 41 MW battery storage, and Aegis Energy’s clean refuelling hub network.

Polaris signs agreement for renewable energy projects in Mexico

Polaris Renewable Energy has signed a 30-year mixed investment agreement with CFE for the development, financing, construction and operation of three renewable energy projects in Mexico. The portfolio comprises approximately 250 MWdc of solar capacity and 61.6 MW/192 MWh of BESS across Quintana Roo, Tlaxcala and Sinaloa. The projects include the 132.57 MWdc Los Girasoles solar project paired with 101.5 MWh of BESS, 91.06 MWdc of Solar Energía Tres Hermanos solar project paired with 71.6 MWh of BESS and 25.3 MWdc of  Don Humberto solar project along with 18.9 MWh BESS.

Sungrow commissions 400 MWh BESS in Malaysia

Sungrow commissioned the 100 MW/400 MWh Santong battery energy storage project (BESS) in Terengganu, Malaysia. It is owned and developed by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). Sungrow supplied 90 PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled BESS units along with its facility energy management system for the project. The project also successfully completed a 100 MW full-power discharge test.

Europe installed 36 GWh BESS capacity in 2025: Report

In 2025, Europe installed 36 GWh of batteries, representing a substantial acceleration compared to the previous year. This corresponds to an increase of 11.7 GWh (+48%) compared to 2024 and marks the largest year on year capacity increase to date, surpassing the previous record set in 2023 (9.2 GWh). Since 2022, the annual market has more than tripled, and despite the slowdown observed in 2024 (+24%), battery storage has regained strong momentum. In 2025, utility-scale batteries led the market with 19 GWh installed, up from the 9.7 GWh in 2024. In addition, hybrid solar-plus-storage projects are scaling rapidly. Hybrid projects are gaining significant traction in the EU, with around 20% of new BESS capacity paired with solar PV.

Vena Energy secures A$1.4 billion financing for Australian renewables 

Vena Energy has secured A$1.4 billion in green financing to support its Australian solar and BESS assets. The financing is backed by BNP Paribas, Bank of China, DBS Bank, ING Bank, Intesa Sanpaolo (IMI CIB Division), Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, OCBC, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank and Westpac Banking Corporation. The financing covers greenfield project funding with the refinancing of existing facilities, across two transactions.

Actis acquires Klara Renewables in Poland

Actis has agreed to acquire Klara Renewables from CVC DIF. Klara Renewables is a 171 MW operational onshore wind portfolio located in Poland. The portfolio also offers around 275 MW of hybridisation potential through co-located solar PV and battery energy storage. The portfolio also has a long-term target of 1.5 GW of renewable capacity. The portfolio comprises six operational wind projects supported by contracts for difference through 2038-39, including three projects in Wielkopolska, two in Kujawy-Pomorze, and one in Podlasie, all powered by Vestas turbines.

Grenergy signs 1 TWh power supply deal in Chile 

Grenergy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA), securing a 15-year contract to supply 1 TWh of electricity annually to an investment-grade global utility in Chile. The agreement will be effective between July and October 2026. The agreement involves supply of electricity during non-solar hours from the Elena battery energy storage  (BESS) project in the Antofagasta region.
