Globeleq launches 250 MW solar with 600 MWh storage project in Zambia

Globeleq has launched the Leopards Hill project which combines a 250 MWp solar PV with a 150 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project, located near Lusaka, is being developed in partnership with Leopard Investment Company and will supply electricity to approximately 150,000 households annually. CIP commences construction on 300 MW BESS project in Chile

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has issued the final notice to proceed (FNTP) for the Patache BESS project, marking its official construction. The project is located in Iquique, Chile. The project has a 300 MW/1,500 MWh capacity. The project is being managed through CIP’s Growth Markets Fund II. The project builds on CIP’s 1,100 MWh Arena BESS project in the Antofagasta region.

Amazon Australia signs 430 MW clean energy PPAs 

Amazon Australia has signed nine power purchase agreements (PPAs) to add 430 MW of clean energy to the grid across New South Wales and Victoria. The projects will increase Amazon’s total renewable capacity in Australia to nearly 1 GW (990 MW) once operational. The portfolio includes: one wind farm, three utility-scale solar and battery hybrids, four distributed solar-battery projects, and a new battery installation at the Mokoan Solar Farm.

ENGIE acquires 278 MW BESS projects in Spain

ENGIE has acquired two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Andalusia totaling 278 MW/1.1 GWh. These facilities located in Álora (78 MW/312 MWh) and Tarifa (200 MW/800 MWh) provide four hours of storage and utilise synchronous condensers to stabilise the grid through inertia and reactive power management. Construction on the projects is scheduled to commence in 2027, with the projects expected to be commissioned in 2028.

Zelestra and EDP ink agreement to hybridise solar plant in Spain 

Zelestra and EDP have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to hybridise an operational solar plant with battery storage. As per the agreement, Zelestra will add a 160 MWh BESS to the 50 MW Pizarroso solar plant in Cáceres. The solar plant has been operational since 2023. EDP, the current offtaker for the solar plant, will use the battery storage to improve energy management and enhance system flexibility.

Arevon Energy, Inc. has commenced construction of the 250 MW/1,000 MWh Cormorant energy storage project in Daly City, California. The project involves an investment of approximately $600 million.
