Morocco begins construction of 305 MW Noor Atlas solar project

Morocco has initiated construction of the Noor Atlas solar programme as part of its national energy strategy to expand renewable electricity generation and support regional development. The programme has a total installed capacity of 305 MW. Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy will manage the development, financing, construction, and operations of these projects.

Acwa to develop 5 GW renewable energy projects in Türkiye

Acwa has signed an investment agreement with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye under the 5 GW intergovernmental renewable energy programme. Under the agreement, Acwa will be responsible for developing, financing, constructing, commissioning, and operating the projects. The agreements cover the development of five renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 5 GW.

Nextpower Arabia to supply trackers for Bisha solar project

Nextpower Arabia, a joint venture (JV) between Nextpower and Abunayyan Holding, will supply 2.25 GWp of solar tracking systems to Larsen & Toubro for the Bisha solar project in Saudi Arabia. The project is being developed by an ACWA Power-led consortium and was procured by the Saudi Power Procurement Company under Wave 6 of the National Renewable Energy Program administered by the Ministry of Energy.

Scatec inks PPA for solar-plus-storage project in Egypt

Scatec ASA has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for the development of a solar-plus-storage project in Egypt. The agreement covers 1.95 GW of solar generation capacity and 3.9 GWh of battery storage. As per this arrangement, Scatec will develop one integrated solar and battery storage hybrid project, alongside two standalone battery energy storage systems.

ENGIE and Masdar win 1.5 GW solar project in Abu Dhabi

Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has awarded the contract for the development of the 1.5 GWac Khazna solar project to ENGIE and Masdar. Following the contract, a power purchase agreement was signed between EWEC and the developers. Under the agreement, ENGIE and Masdar will design, finance, construct, and operate the plant near the Al Khazna area of Abu Dhabi.

QatarEnergy inks contract for 2 GW solar project

QatarEnergy has signed an agreement with Samsung C&T’s Engineering & Construction Group for the construction of a solar project in Dukhan, located around 80 kilometres west of Doha. The project will be developed in two phases and is expected to achieve a total generation capacity of 2,000 MW by mid-2029. The project will begin to supply its first 1,000 MW of power to the KAHRAMAA grid towards the end of 2028.

Qair secures financing for floating solar plant in Seychelles

Qair has obtained a $5.7 million senior debt facility from the Facility for Energy Inclusion. The financing is to support the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of a 5.8 MWp floating solar plant at Providence Lagoon on Mahé Island, Seychelles. The project, known as the Seysun Lagoon floating photovoltaic plant, is part of Seychelles’ national renewable energy roadmap.

Sungrow Hydrogen plans electrolyser facility in Oman 

Sungrow Hydrogen has signed a MoU with United Engineering Services (UES) to explore the establishment of an electrolyser manufacturing facility in Oman. The proposed plant will also manufacture and assemble gas separation and purification systems, along with the associated supporting infrastructure. Morocco approves green hydrogen projects worth $ 32.7 billion 

The government of Morocco has approved $ 32.7 billion worth of green hydrogen projects for the production of ammonia, industrial fuel, and green steel. Under this, five national and international investors were selected to carry out six projects across the three southern regions of Morocco. AMEA Power to develop 1500 MWh of BESS projects in Egypt

AMEA Power has inked an agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to develop two standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS). BYD inks 12.5 GWh energy storage contracts in Saudi Arabia

BYD Energy Storage and Saudi Electricity Company have inked 12.5 GWh of grid-scale energy storage project contracts. This new contract along with a previously delivered 2.6 GWh project combines to a total of 15.1 GWh of projects between the two companies. The battery energy storage system (BESS) equipment for the projects will be deployed across five sites in the country. Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to pre-qualified companies for the development of the Zarraf Solar PV Independent Power Producer (IPP) project. The project is located in the Al Zarraf area of the Al Dhafra region and will have a 1,500 MW power generation capacity. Furthermore, the RFP is being issued to bidders who successfully completed the qualification process following the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage in October 2024.

ACWA Power and HAU Energy reach financial close for 1.1 GW wind farm in Egypt

ACWA Power and its partner HAU Energy (a subsidiary of Hassan Allam Utilities) have achieved financial close for the 1.1 GW Suez Wind Farm in Egypt. This project secured a     $ 703.6 million senior debt facility from a consortium of banks. These were namely the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the African Development Bank (AFDB), the British International Investment Corporation, and the Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP).
