Boralex acquires a 50 per cent stake in five wind farms

Boralex has finalised the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in five functioning wind farms totaling 894 MW in the US from EDF Renewables. These projects include the 50 MW Milo and 250 MW Roosevelt developments in New Mexico, as well as the 200 MW Hereford, 200 MW Longhorn, and 194 MW Spinning Spur projects in Texas. Each location was put into service between 2014 and 2016, and all of them feature Vestas turbines, with Hereford also comprising machines from GE Renewable Energy.

ACWA Power signs $2.4 billion wind energy PPA agreement in Uzbekistan

ACWA Power, a Saudi developer, has signed PPAs and investment agreements with the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to build the 1500 MW Kungrad wind farm in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan. The wind farm, which was previously known as the Karakalpakstan Wind IPP, is anticipated to include three 500 MW wind power projects owned by three subsidiaries.

UK Offshore Supply-Chain Dilemma: IEEFA Report

The UK government has increased its offshore wind capacity ambitions from 11 gigawatts (GW) of current total installed capacity to 50 GW to be installed over the next eight years. The offshore wind industry shares critical supply chains with the offshore oil and gas sector. Both rely on a limited pool of available ports, vessels and personnel. Stimulating both sectors at the same time will spur competition over scarce resources, driving up costs—which will affect the lower-margin offshore wind sector more severely than the oil and gas sector.

Goldwind sells 49% stake in 528 MW wind farm in Australia

Palisade Investment Partners and Aware Super Pty Ltd., as trustees of Aware Super, have agreed to acquire a 49 per cent stake in the 528 MW Stockyard Hill Wind Farm from Goldwind in Australia. The wind farm, which has 149 Goldwind turbines, was completed in September 2022.

Vattenfall to build Finland’s first large offshore wind farm

Vattenfall, a Swedish energy company, and Metsähallitus, a Finnish state enterprise, have formed a joint venture to build a 1.3 GW offshore wind farm in Finland. The land and water areas of the Finnish state are managed by Metsähallitus. The offshore wind farm, which will be situated in Korsnäs off the west coast of Finland, will have the ability to produce 5 TWh of clean energy annually.

Octopus Energy signs 2.4TWh PPA with Shell Energy in UK

Octopus Energy Group, based in the UK, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Shell Energy Europe to purchase 2.4 TWh of wind energy per year from the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm. In accordance with the agreed-upon agreements, Octopus Energy will receive enough renewable energy from the 3.6 GW Dogger Bank project to power 800,000 of its client houses. Shell Energy Europe has a deal in place to offtake 20 per cent of the energy generated by Dogger Bank.

Ecowende to construct 760 MW offshore wind project in Netherlands

Ecowende, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco, has won a bid to develop a 760 MW offshore wind facility at Hollandse Kust (west) VI in the Netherlands. The offshore wind farm, which is around 53 km from the Dutch coast, is slated to start operating in 2026. Once operational, it will generate enough clean energy to reduce carbon emissions by about 3 per cent of current electricity demand in the Netherlands.

OX2, a Swedish company that develops renewable energy projects, has sold Helen and Bank of Land’s Wind Power Fund the Niinimäki wind farm in Finland. The Niinimäki wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 145 MW and 22 turbines.

IberBlue Wind to develop 990 MW of floating wind farm in Andalusia

IberBlue Wind, a Spanish-Irish renewable energy company, has announced plans to build a 990 MW floating wind farm off the coast of Andalusia, Spain. The 310 km sq Nao Victoria wind farm will be built in the Alboran Sea, off the coasts of Cadiz and Malaga. The Nao Victoria wind farm, which will comprise 55 floating offshore wind turbines, will have an installed capacity of 990 MW and be able to power hundreds of thousands of households.
