TotalEnergies, a French energy giant, has inked agreements to build a 1 GW wind farm in Kazakhstan alongside Samruk-Kazyna and KazMunayGas. The Mirny project, which is reportedly the largest wind energy project ever built in Kazakhstan, will be developed by the company’s affiliate Total Eren. The Mirny project will consist of 200 wind turbines and a 600 MWh battery storage system. Once operational, the facility will be able to supply the energy needs of more than one million people in the country. Its development is part of an intergovernmental agreement between France and Kazakhstan to implement cooperation in the field of addressing climate change.
According to TotalEnergies, the agreement has improved its position in Kazakhstan’s marketplace for renewable energy. Additionally, the company sold its Total E&P Dunga affiliate to Oriental Sunrise, a Kazakh company, for $330 million. The agreement is dependent on both the partners waiving their preemption rights and approval from Kazakhstani authorities.
TotalEnergies and Casa dos Ventos formed a joint venture (JV) to develop, build, and operate a 12 GW renewable portfolio in Brazil. The JV would have a 66 per cent stake held by CDV and a 34 per cent stake held by TotalEnergies. To complete the acquisition, TotalEnergies would pay a consideration of $550 million and an earn-out of up to $30 million.
