Pattern Energy Group and its Japanese affiliate, Green Power Investment Corporation, has obtained financing for the 112 MW Ishikari offshore wind farm and battery storage project. The offshore facility in Hokkaido, Japan, will have a battery storage component with a capacity of 100MW x 180MWh and be situated around 3 km from Ishikari Bay. The project was funded by MUFG Bank together with subsidiaries of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings.
The project was additionally sponsored by the Development Bank of Japan, Societe Generale, Shinsei Bank, and Mizuho Bank, a subsidiary of Mizuho Financial Group. The Ishikari offshore wind farm will be outfitted with 14 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines, each with 8 MW of capacity. The wind farm and its battery storage component are anticipated to be operational by December 2023. Hokkaido Electric Power Network will acquire the clean energy generated by the offshore wind plant under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
In June 2021, Germany-based Uniper Technologies and Pattern Energy announced that they have signed a 15-year PPA for up to 219,000 MWh per year of wind energy in New Mexico, USA.
