YEC inks solar PPA with Rio Tinto for Pilbara project

Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) has achieved financial close and signed a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Rio Tinto for the Jinbi Solar Project. The project is located in Pilbara, Australia. Under the agreement, YEC will supply 100 per cent of the electricity generated from the project to support decarbonisation of Rio Tinto’s Pilbara iron ore operations.

Amazon Australia signs 430 MW clean energy PPAs 

Amazon Australia has signed nine power purchase agreements (PPAs) to add 430 MW of clean energy to the grid across New South Wales and Victoria. The projects will increase Amazon’s total renewable capacity in Australia to nearly 1 GW (990 MW) once operational. The portfolio includes: one wind farm, three utility-scale solar and battery hybrids, four distributed solar-battery projects, and a new battery installation at the Mokoan Solar Farm.

Lightsource bp sells Australian solar portfolio to Aula Energy

Lightsource bp has announced the sale of its Australian solar portfolio to Aula Energy. The transaction covers five operational solar projects with a combined capacity of 1,037 MWdc. The assets included in the portfolio are the Wellington, Wellington North, West Wyalong, Woolooga, and Wunghnu projects. The projects are located across New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.

NHOA Energy launches 245 MW BESS in Australia

NHOA Energy, along with EnergyAustralia and Enerven, have announced the official launch of a 245 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Hallett, South Australia, following financial close and the project’s transition into the delivery phase. The Hallett BESS is owned and developed by EnergyAustralia near the town of Canowie, and is being deployed adjacent to the existing Hallett gas-fired power station.

Australia awards contracts to 1.17 GW BESS projects

AEMO Services Limited (ASL), a subsidiary of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), has awarded long-term energy service agreements to six battery energy storage system (BESS) in New South Wales through Tender Round 6. All six projects are based on lithium-ion technology, with storage durations ranging from 8.7 hours to 11.5 hours. The projects together account for 1,170 MW of capacity and 11.98 GWh of storage.

Neoen inaugurates 412 MW wind farm in Australia

Neoen has inaugurated 412 MW Goyder South wind farm in South Australia. The project, located near Burra in South Australia’s Mid North region on the lands of the Ngadjuri Nation, was constructed in two stages with a total of 75 turbines. The wind farm supplies energy under three long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). It is expected to produce approximately 1.5 TWh of electricity annually.

Australia floats two tenders for renewables and storage

The Australian government has launched two new tenders under the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) to support renewable energy and firming projects in Western Australia. The tenders will add 1.6 GW of renewable generation along with 2.4 GWh of dispatchable storage. This will supply power to over 900,000 households annually and meet the peak demand of 550,000 households. The deadline for bid submission is November 7, 2025.

DP Energy to develop 1.4 GW wind project in Australia

DP Energy will be developing the Windy Plains Renewable Energy Park in Queensland. The project will combine around 197 wind turbines with an installed capacity of up to 1,400 MW. It will also be supported by battery energy storage systems of around 500 MW/2000 MWh. Furthermore, the project is currently under the project feasibility stage. Environmental, cultural heritage, and technical assessments of the project are underway.

AMPYR reaches financial closure for 300 MW/600 MWh BESS project in NSW

AMPYR has successfully achieved financial closure for the Wellington Stage 1 battery energy storage system (BESS) project in regional New South Wales (NSW). The Wellington Stage 1 BESS, with a capacity of 300 MW/600 MWh is expected to be operational by 2026. Grid connectivity will be facilitated by Lumea, which will connect the system to Transgrid’s 330 kV transmission network at Wellington. The project will be built and delivered by Fluence Energy.

EnergyAustralia has partnered with EDF power solutions Australia to co-develop and deliver the Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project (LLPHES) in Lithgow. The LLPHES Project has the capability to produce 385 MW of reliable, dispatchable energy once it is developed. The energy produced will be sufficient to supply over 250,000 homes in New South Wales for up to eight hours.

Tanzania invites bids for construction of 100 MWp solar project

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) is inviting tenders from all the eligible contractors for the construction of a 100 MWp solar PV plant, phase II. TANESCO is the Project Executing Agency for this project, which is situated in the Shinyanga Region. The government of the United Republic of Tanzania received financing from Agence Française de Développement for the cost of design, construction, and installation of this 100 MWp solar plant.

WestWind Energy inks agreement to construct 1 GW wind project in Australia

WestWind Energy has inked a lease agreement with the New South Wales government for the construction of Lake Victoria wind farm. The project will be built over a period of 2-3 years from 2029-2032. The project will have an installed capacity of approximately 1 GW and an annual energy production of approximately 3400 GWh. It also has an estimated capital expenditure of $3.8 billion. The project will also incorporate up to three battery energy storage systems with a total storage capacity of 1500 MWh.

Plug Power and AGA sign 3 GW electrolyser supply deal

Plug Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) to deliver up to 3 GW of Plug electrolyzer capacity for AGA’s upcoming hydrogen to ammonia facility planned for the Northern Territory of Australia. AGA’s production facility is set to run a green ammonia process with a capacity of 2,500 metric tons per day. The gradual delivery of the 3 GW electrolyzer supply is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2027.

Origin Energy Limited has struck a deal with Virya Energy to purchase the Yanco Delta Wind Farm, which is a wind and energy storage facility situated in New South Wales. Yanco Delta is positioned within the South West Renewable Energy Zone designated by the New South Wales Government. It comprises a 1.5 GW wind farm and a 800 MWh battery. The project is situated next to key transmission infrastructure.

Fortescue opens 2 GW electrolyser facility in Australia

Fortescue Ltd, an Australian metal mining and green energy company has formally established a production plant in Gladstone, Queensland, with the capacity to produce over 2 GW of electrolyser stacks annually. This is one of the first factories in the world to produce Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser stacks with an automated assembly line. The plant will manufacture electrolysers that Fortescue teams in the US and Australia created internally.
