German offshore transmission system operator (TSO) 50Hertz has issued a tender seeking bids for the supply of a 220 kV submarine and onshore cable system for the Ostwind 3 grid connection.

The selected party will be in charge of the design, engineering, construction, installation, handling and commissioning of the cable system, which will connect the onshore substation Stilow to the offshore substation in the Baltic Sea.The tender also covers the ancillary systems, accessories and parts for the grid connection.As reported, the deadline for submitting applications for the tender is July 7, 2021, while the duration of the contract will be two years.

Ostwind 3 is the third offshore project for the grid connection of the wind farm areas to the North-East of Rügen Island, following Ostwind 1 and Ostwind 2 (50Hertz’s operational grid connection projects). The area connecting to Ostwind 3, designated as O-1.3, is located in the area of Westlich Adlergrund – north of the operating Wikinger and Arkona wind farms from Ostwind 1. Ostwind 2, set to connect the Arcadis Ost 1 and Baltic Eagle offshore wind farms to the German high voltage grid, is currently under construction, with the first cable section installed in in March 2021.
