ABB and Swiss utility Axpo have partnered to develop modular green hydrogen production plants in Italy. The two companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding to that effect and aim to develop a feasible business model of producing affordable, green hydrogen. They will work together on feasibility studies and assess ways to reduce costs while ensuring a low carbon footprint.

Axpo is Switzerland’s largest producer of renewable energy and an international leader in energy trading and the marketing of solar and wind power that will use its expertise as an established energy provider in this project. Meanwhile, ABB is a leading global technology company that will harness its automation, electrification, and digital leadership in industrial operations. Together the two countries aim to identify synergies for standardization, modularization, efficient and flexible production of green hydrogen.

ABB is also working with Lhyfe to install control solutions to automate production of its first green hydrogen project in France. Further, ABB is also supporting the Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain project which aims to produce hydrogen and transport it from Australia to Japan. It is also working with Hydrogen Optimized to develop an integrated solution that supports the use of high current water electrolysis technology in large scale green hydrogen production systems.
