ACCIONA Energía, a Spanish renewables developer, has obtained a 280 MW Forty Mile wind farm in Bow Island, Forty Mile County, Alberta, Canada, from Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Canada. On behalf of ACCIONA Energa, RES will continue to work on the project as the contractor for building the remaining portions of the plant. The operation is anticipated to begin in early 2025.

RES created Forty Mile, which will be constructed in two stages. Phase one consists of 49 turbines with a combined 280 MW producing capacity. The turbines will be supplied by Nordex. The second phase, which is optional, will have 21 turbines with a combined power of 120 MW. If the second phase option is used, the wind farm’s total capacity will be 400 MW, which will be enough to meet the power needs of 230,000 Canadian houses.

In August 2023, Acciona Energía signed a MoU with Aruba for setting up a green hydrogen valley on the island. In order to set up, establish, and operate a green hydrogen facility that was powered by a self-consumption clean energy project, Accoina Energía worked with the state-owned energy entities of Aruba.
