India-based ACME group has signed an offtake term sheet with Japan’s IHI Corporation to deliver green ammonia from Odisha to Japan. The agreement between IHI and ACME pertains to the long-term delivery of 0.4 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of green ammonia from phase-1 of the Odisha project in Gopalpur.

Both companies aim to collaborate throughout the entire value chain, encompassing production, logistics, and supply to Japanese customers. The objective is to establish a market for green ammonia, promoting its utilisation in diverse applications such as power generation and various industrial uses in Japan, ultimately contributing to a reduction in overall emissions.

ACME is developing a large green hydrogen and ammonia project in Gopalpur, Odisha, with a phased capacity expansion targeting 1.2 MMTPA. With initial production expected to commence around 2027, the project is poised to contribute to a reduction of 54 million tonnes of emissions equivalent across its lifecycle.

In August 2023, a land agreement was signed by the ACME Group with Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited for development of green hydrogen and green ammonia project on 343 acres of land at the Gopalpur Industrial Park in Ganjam district of Odisha.

REGlobal’s Views: ACME has a number of projects coming up in the green hydrogen space both in India and abroad. It is developing these projects for both domestic consumption and exports. The company already has an operational green ammonia project in Bikaner in the state of Rajasthan. Further, it is developing a large-scale project in Oman as well and has partnered with Scatec for the same. ACME was an early mover in this space and aims to become a leading global player in the green hydrogen segment.
