The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Japan have signed financing agreements with AM Green Ammonia (India) Private Limited for the development of a 1.1 million tonne per annum (TPA) green ammonia production facility in Andhra Pradesh, India. The financing includes a $100 million loan from the Leading Asia’s Private Infrastructure Fund 2, financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and administered by ADB.
The project will involve converting a former natural gas-based ammonia and urea production facility into a renewable energy-powered green ammonia plant. The facility will be developed in two phases, each with an annual production capacity of 547,500 tonnes. Furthermore, the investment marks the first financing under the Action for Creating Energy Security for Long-term Resilience initiative, launched by ADB and Japan in May 2026 to support energy security and build sustainable energy systems.
In July 2026, ADB approved a $160 million loan to expand solar power generation in Bhutan through the deployment of at least 310 MW of new solar capacity. The project includes 120 MW Wobthang, 40 MW Pedseling, and 150 MW Dramthang solar farms. The initiative also includes 46 km of transmission infrastructure to connect the projects to the national grid.
