Agder Energi, a Norwegian power company, has partnered with Macquarie-owned Green Investment Group (GIG) to bid for a floating offshore wind project in the North Sea’s Utsira Nord zone. The Utsira Nord zone, with a capacity of 1.5 GW, is one of two regions where the Norwegian government has solicited license applications. With a combined shareholding of 54.47 per cent, 25 Norwegian municipalities own the majority of Agder Energi. Statkraft owns the balance of the utility.
The two companies aim to generate local jobs, foster innovation in Norwegian energy markets, and help the Norwegian offshore wind supply chain flourish as a consequence of their collaboration. The action is also aimed at assisting the Norwegian government in reaching its net-zero target by 2050.
Agder Energi, Norway’s fourth-largest hydroelectric power producer, operates 49 hydropower units and has an annual flexible production capacity of 8.7 TWh. In October 2021, GIG acquired the rights for the Kattegatt offshore wind project in Sweden. The wind farm is located off the coast of the Falkenberg municipality in the region of Halland. It was purchased from Agrivind, an engineering company based in Sweden, for an undisclosed sum.
