Alliant Energy has proposed developing 414 MW of solar power in Wisconsin, doubling the state’s solar capacity. The company reported that the capacity will be distributed across six projects in the state. As per the proposal, the six newest projects would be developed in mostly rural parts of five counties. Once the projects are operational, local communities would receive around $50 million in shared revenues for the next 30 years. Over the same period, local landowners would receive a combined $60 million in lease payments. The move will be a big step for Alliant energy in achieving its goal to add more than 1 GW of solar by the end of 2023. If the goal is reached, the company will be among the largest owners and operators of solar energy in the Badger State.
Alliant Energy is currently awaiting a regulatory decision for the acquisition and advance of six other solar projects that would add 675 MW of capacity by the end of 2023. If all the proposed projects are approved and developed, the company estimates that by 2025 about 50 per cent of its resource mix will come from renewable energy.
