Autoliv has inked two virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) with two renewable electricity producers, namely Alight and Eurowind Energy. The VPPA with Swedish solar energy producer Alight will enable the construction of a 100 MWp solar park in Eurajoki, Finland. This project will be operational in 2026 and produce 100 GWh annually, and construction of this project is expected to begin soon.
Furthermore, the VPPA with Danish wind energy producer Eurowind Energy will provide clean electricity from the 48 MW Pecineaga wind park in Romania. This park will generate approximately 176 GWh annually and is expected to be operational by 2027.
These agreements are expected to play a key role in ensuring a consistent and reasonably priced energy supply for Autoliv’s activities in Europe. Additionally, the agreements will secure a renewable electricity supply in the long term. The contracts are for a duration of 12 years and span from 2027-2039.
REGlobal’s Views: These VPPAs will help Autoliv to move closer to its aims of carbon neutrality in own operations by 2030 and net-zero emissions across the supply chain by 2040. The solar and wind projects, due to their varying generation times, will ensure renewable power generation during the day as well as night. Further, since the projects are located in different countries, they help diversify the generation sources for better energy security.
