Bolivia’s state power corporation Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA (ENDE) is set to launch a 39.6 MW wind power project and begin execution of another 24 MW wind project in the country. After four months of stalled work due to the pandemic, the 39.6 MW San Julian wind project located in the department of Santa Cruz will soon be connected. The project consists of 11 turbines.
ENDE will soon begin the development of the 24 MW La Ventolera Wind project. The project is currently in the tendering phase. This wind farm would have eight turbines and will be located in the municipality of Uriondo, in the department of Tarija and will be connected to the National Interconnected System. French development agency AFD is the financier of La Ventolera. ENDE has also finalised the assembly of the Warnes and El Dorado wind farms, which will generate 108 MW combined.
Bolivia has been experiencing strong activity in its renewable energy space. In February 2021, the 100 MW Oruro photovoltaic solar plant located in Bolivia was inaugurated. It covers an area of 208 hectares and is the largest solar park in Bolivia. It was constructed in two phases. In addition to the Oruro solar plant, Bolivia has several solar plants, including the 5 MW Cobija solar plant in Pando, 5 MW Yunchará solar plant in Tarija, 60 MW Uyuni solar plant in the department of Potosí and others of lower installed power such as those built in Remanso and El Sena.
