Boralex has entered into a renewable energy standard agreement with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). This agreement entails procurement of Tier-1 renewable energy certificates (RECs) from the former’s 250 MW Fort Covington solar project and 200 MW Two Rivers solar project. The projects have a total capacity of 450 MW.
The contracts were provided as part of NYSERDA’s 2024 Renewable Energy Standard Competitive Solicitation for the purchase of New York Tier-1 Eligible RECs. The Fort Covington Solar Project is located in the Town of Fort Covington, Franklin County, and the Two Rivers Solar Project (200 MW) is located in the Towns of Brasher and Massena, St. Lawrence County. Construction on the project is expected to commence in 2026, with commissioning scheduled for 2028.
Boralex is a renewable energy production company with projects in Canada, France, UK, and US. The company currently has renewable energy projects with an installed capacity of 3.1 GW and has 8 GW projects in development and construction. Earlier in April 2025, Boralex’s Limekiln wind farm and all its turbines became operational. The wind farm is located near Thurso in Caithness and has an installed capacity of 106 MW. It consists of 24 Vestas V136-4.5 MW wind turbines, measuring 150m to the tip of the blade.
REGlobal’s Views: New York has set a target for 10,000 GW of distributed solar energy installations across the State through rooftop solar and community solar projects. In addition, the state will also see installation of 3,000 MW of energy storage by 2030 to help maintain grid stability and also address intermittency of renewable resources such as wind and solar. Projects such as these two Boralex projects will help the state to move closed to its targets.
